Unhappy

Even if AN was on the brink for so long, surely it could have been possible to rescue it.

Nobody (who has any brains!) will pay too much, which they can't afford, for something they don't really want!!

If the board of ANZ had any sense they'd have seen the big picture, and KNOWN that they couldn't afford the whole of AN and let the 50% go to SIA who was in a MUCH better financial situation anyway. But history has shown big companies have none of this sense and only see the saving of their own ship at ALL costs.

Shame this bail out of ANZ a.) Didn't work and b.) Cost so many jobs.

Feelings with all the AN crews now jobless. Surely this means no recruiting for a few years here now!!

If you want to blame the people responsible for the demise of Ansett, heres the list;

1, Abeles,Hawke

2, 89 Sc@bs

3, Murdoch (Asset stripping AN)

4, Keating (reneging on the open skies agreement to allow Airnz to operate domestic routes in Aussie)

5, News corp (cooking the books prior to sale)
6, Cushing (buying the other half)

7, Aust.government for not allowing us to restructure it without laying anyone off!! (that was a good one)

8, Outdated Aust.labour practises (cleaners getting 50k!!)
9, Aust. unions
10, NZ government for being a bit slow (probably just as well)

11, Aussie gov. for not helping out!
12, Anderson
13, CASA
14, SIA (to cunning for there own good)
15, Branson (cut price airline forcing fares down)
16, Oil prices,etc,etc

Blimming heck, it should have gone bust ages ago!!! Did I miss anyone Kaptin M?

Dr Farmer last night produced on TV the documents given to your Government(June) outlining the huge financial losses An were incurring & they did nothing to help out after being asked so AIRNZ could keep it going while they either restructured into a value based airline or sold it.

Cool

Quite agree Barbers pole, but let's add another couple to the list...

17. The australian public who were happy to see the pilots destroyed in 89.
18. The ansett staff who were happy to see the pilots destroyed in 89.

Might I also add that the ansett staff went further and embraced the scabs... especially the foreign scabs!

Do I feel sorry for the australian public and ansett staff?...NO!

To the Ground/Office staff, Engineering personnel, Flight Attendants and Pilots who joined after March 1990 my sincere condolences.
To say I know how you feel is of little comfort.
At a time like this it is difficult to focus on the future. Every day Ansett carried a certain amount of passengers, freight and mail. The demand for this service will be met either by the remaining airlines and/or new companies. Many of you will find employment with these and at some stage life will return to some semblance of normality. The salary and conditions you are entitled to may not return for some time, if at all, but as we found survival is what is important now.

A lot of blame has been apportioned but it must be remembered that Ansett was mortally wounded before the Air New Zealand clowns arrived on the scene. The Abeles/Murdoch asset-stripping, the Abeles/Murdoch, Hawke, Kelty war on the Pilots and the final Murdoch asset-stripping of the carcass sealed Ansett's fate. Air New Zealand may be accused of being heartless idiots but the true blame rests with the afore mentioned and, of course, those who assisted them.

Once again from experience I know it is hard to see but sometimes good can come from these things. For the Pilots who joined after March 1990 there will be other opportunities. What is daunting now may well turn into these. One advantage you will have is that the path many of you will now tread has been trod by us ahead of you. In Airlines you may choose to join there will be '89ers. You will receive assistance ranging from advice on schools for children to how to renew your post office box and that receipts no matter what language printed in don't need to be paid! Notes and tips compiled over time will be passed on and the many in training, checking and admin positions will more than likely be glad to assist in these areas. You will find the '89ers to be good decent people who once stood up for what they believed in and when it didn't work out got on with life, just as you will (not withstanding the odd angry outburst on these pages that in twelve years time you will be guilty of whenever the subject of the demise of Ansett is raised).

Good luck and best wishes.

Thumbs down

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Have been thinking....

Gary Toomey - Ansett CEO
- On ANZ BAnk Board

Charles Goode - Chairman of ANZ Bank
- Director Of Air New
Zealand

Margaret Jackson - CEO Qantas
- Director ANZ Bank

Have these people taken lessons and mastered the ANZ's banks skills in handling Staff and customers??????????

As Directors why were they a part of the descision to change the ANZ bank's travel policy of 50/50 booking with Qantas and Ansett to a 100% Qantas only????????

Did they know something 12 Months Ago?????????

enuff said!

Wiley, I couldnt agree more. Why not get the great aviation jurno's around the country'(the seekers of truth and the writers of facts) to have a REALLY good hard look at it all. Someone with itergity and guts to find out the REAL truth behind the "story". Lets face it, they no longer have to write the AN hype, because there is no AN left to hype, ( and pick up the odd free ticket with). So maybe someone could write and publish some real facts behind this unholey mess. Lets face it, for at least the last 15 years, the truth has never got in way of the story, maybe it is time that was changed. Any takers?
