How many people are just doing the training for a PPL against the number going on to CPL. If an AOC is required for a CPL school and the PPL is patr of the process, are we going to have two types of flying schools, one for PPL only and one for the "intergrated" school.

What then happens if a PPL holder then decided that, shock horror, he/she likes flying and likes the idea to fly for a living and therefore requires a CPL. Start all over again or do a flight test for acceptance to a CPL school?

As for the cost for manuals, there is a company in Brisbane who charges well under $5000.00 for a GA manual.

CFI is correct.
CASA AOC fees and compliance costs are NOT the reason operators can't make money.
Neither do they represent a significant part of the total cost structure.
If they do then you ARE going backwards out the door but just haven't worked it out yet.

It's the lack of effective surveillance and entry control that does.

ozoilfield: It would be no different from going to Bourke High School and then having to go to Uni for advanced studies and qualifications.

The number of intergrated schools that teach CPL and above should be controlled by ensuring standards are met. The present standards show they are not!

Standards in aviation are akin to law and ethics in that if you have an excess of available money and lots of useful political connections, then you don't need to worry about standards, law or ethics.

Question

tealady, sorry about that (not really writing what was in my mind, that is), but I was more or less under the impression that one had to furnish "bricks and mortar" proof of a business address as part of the application?

429 CJ, I'm talking about pre application and doing a lot of initial contacting , market research, business planning etc so that one can reassure oneself in ones own mind that the business will be viable and not just put the "heart before the head".
So many GA organisations start out just because a pilot wants to have someone else pay for their flying. Our first business did but subsequent expansion only happened after much researching, planning and discussions with many people in the industry, including CASA.

That dear lady says it all and is the reason it is such a shambles when they get past the first part.

Gaunty, you're surely not suggesting that planning, researching and discussion result in a shambles, are you???
