Why is it bad for everyone in aviation?
If there is demand some one will fill the gap, whether it be QF, Virgin our smaller operators.
Granted it will be bad in the short term for the current AN staff but the future may be brighter for aviation in Australia.

Good to see ya round mate.
And stupid here spent the equivalent of a new Bertram 42 on my eldest daughters education so that she can ring me last week from Brisbane to say.
"Hey Dad doesn't look good for being home at Christmas coz I bought Ansett tickets to come home with last week, can't think why I didn't buy Qantas".

I wonder if CASA are thinking of getting involved. Isn't one the requirements of the holder of an AOC to be financially sound, & viable.
Just a question only. I bet Qantas would like to push that.

If one casts a mind back to 1989 the scoreboard would look like this.
Hawke - Gone
Abeles - Gone
TAA - Gone
IPEC - Gone
East-West - Gone
Ansett - Going, going, gone
AFAP - growing stronger every day.
How I remember all those press releases proclaiming victory for the airlines and goverment...!!!?? Might have been a bit early to tell.

Between smug well paid expats and spineless heroes what hope has the poor old GA driver?
Both groups have screwed it for the rest of us.

And entrenched nepotism. Lets see how the various frequently occurring surnames amongst the AN pilot seniority list go, as fathers tread on sons in the scramble for the elusive well paid job in Oz. For many of the younger ones it may be the first job they have ever had to get themselves. Let the catfight begin!
Iso .... the Toller/CASA grab for media limelight in December/January this year did more commercial damage to Ansett than any events of '89.
Don't encourage them to again blunder in where fools should fear to tread!

Don't Star Alliance have some kind of massive penalty for airlines leaving?
If AN was bought by QF that would bring it into OneWorld, thus incurring said penalty. I seem to remember this being discussed when QF were looking for 25pc of ANZ.
I suppose none of the other Star members have some cash they could chuck in to dilute the SQ "menace"?
