Thaks EPIRB for the LONG awaited answer to the original meaning to this post.
I have problems understanding why every post (with a serious question involved) always has to end up being turned into a big B***H fight between those that were and those that are (pre and post 89). To all that did reply to this post, all we (as bystanders) wanted was to see what an AN employee (Who know's the facts) had to say. Instead we are faced with a S**T load of crud to sift through while you all spit your venom at each other. Maybe I will open up a post just to give all you guys your own space to take the fists to each other.

Thumbs up

EPIRB and LAME

You two seem to have a good feel for the current situation at hand and I don't feel "lame" shows any malice at all. On the contrary I feel you lame are a very good poster albeit lots of them, I still enjoy reading your posts.

I agree with EPIRB on the Execs and management who will always look after themselves first before their staff.

No matter what transpires through this mess costs need cutting and the balance of what money comes in (income) is greater than what goes out (expenditure) Ansett will continue to have problems.

I know I have overly simplified things, but the staff at Ansett seem desperate to want to keep their jobs. It would seem like a lot of people need to get together on this and brainstorm a package.\By this one faction alone can't make it happen alone

Teamwork and a genuine desire for survival of the company and the company is the people that all contribute to ongong daily operations no matter what department you're from.

The unions, management and the owners are resposible for playing the game that created the "situation"

The staff are the mere pawns the are directly affected by all this tension and uncertainty.
May all have a ray of hope for you and your families and all the other businesses and services affected by this crisis.

PS...New Zealand....GOODBYE

Elevator,

Thank you.

I agree with what you say, as I did (do) with what EPIRB said. Also I assure you that I know that the current employees did not cause the problems at Ansett (as we did not at Compass).

It was just at this point in time, too late to correct the last 10-15 years whatever, I was wondering IF current employees would be prepared to sacrifice some of their salary to save Ansett?

Anyway, all answered now as far as I am corncerned thank you.

Best regards and good luck to ALL,

"lame"

PS I only post a lot because that "Feeton" is trying to catch me up, he has NO hope of course...

Lame. Compass 1/2/ZZZZZZZZZ. No one cares. You're stuck in the dark ages. You've been fairly clear where you stand. I hope you get your precious points redeemed.

Wage cuts have obviously come at too late a date to make any impact. As a finance analyst said the actuall difference in seat cost terms was around 1 cent per seat between Virgin and AN. The unimaginable debt is what sunk AN along with the smartest airline managers in the world. THey are just ask them!! The Air NZ board should be investigated because straight incompetence is no defence. As for the NZ government it will depend on how much cash they have to come up with and how the electorate responds. I think any right minded employee should now tell all of their friends that they should NEVER fly with Air NZ or Singapore. Word of mouth is a powerful thing and most people I know were not even aware of NZs involvement in Ansett. I think the obvious winner is QN and Virgin will be here until RB floats then after that they will run into problems. QN will have all the business market that counts and will be able to run at a profit with the seats in economy almost given away. The BIG looser unless they pull their finger out will be SN as Qantas will have their measure from now on. Pay cuts mean nothing if the managers are incompetent although I'm sure there will be a 60 minute special on it all very soon.
