Lightbulb B.T.D.T. Can we do it again?

Immediately after ’89, many Aussies went O/S to find a job. I, like many others of my vintage received a good deal of help in getting another job, albeit in a foreign country. I also had the opportunity in helping out others in the same boat. The network of assistance we set up was phenomenal and benefited a great number of us. Notwithstanding the existence of a supposed ‘list’, there are a large number of young unemployed pilots who could benefit from those who did the hard yards then, and could champion the job hunt for our young colleagues in need of a flying job now. Times are tough at the moment but we did it once before. . . I’m sure we could wind up the old fax machines again, and help out. . .Why not show these guys/girls we’re not just a bunch of old whingers and get back to work, helping them to get back to work.. .If you can help, offer up your e-mail addy, fax number, p.o. box number, do it behind the scenes, do it anyway you can.. .I personally have been able to assist one guy into a contract job and it’s a good feeling. . .. .on a personal note.. .Obviously those earlier colleagues of ours shouldn’t ask for our help and risk ruining the goodwill towards those we can help.

I agree Back Seat. I have helped get 2 guys into work and it's well worth the effort.

Back Seat,. .Hats off to you mate. What a top attitude. I didn't even have a license in '89 but totally appreciate what you guys went through. You've started one of the few positive threads we've seen on the pprune in ages. I sincerely hope that you and your colleagues can assist 'the boys' in securing some direction.. .. .Good onya. .. .

Question

I'm totally AGAINST BSD's opinion in this matter - "a bunch of old whingers" !! - wasn't it only a year or two ago that hordes of fresh-faced Aussie F/O's left the golden shores of our homeland and ventured far and wide to destinations that many of us had never had ANY intention of visiting, let alone LIVING there! But a dozen short years on, the fresh faces have gained a few "character" lines, the hair has thinned and/or greyed, and the athletic chest has dropped a foot or so - but the experiences and the friendships have been totally irreplacable!!. .. .Now, BSD, what you are suggesting is indeed admirable - however the logistics of trying to organise that sort of thing are downright daunting.. .Ask poor ol' Binos who's trying to round up the Aussie PPRuNers for the Ozbash starting April 2nd in Melbourne (check out the PPRuNe Bashes near the top of the Forums page, for more info).. .. .So, if I may make a suggestion, how about we "centralise" our efforts to one main HQ?. .IMHO that HQ would have to be the AFAP - the Australian Federation of Air Pilots which has its offices in 132 Albert Road, South Melbourne.. .They would be only too willing, I'm sure, to act as intermediaries under the circumstances - anyone knowing of jobs advising them, and all you younger guys looking for work, using the Feds (as we did) to let you know where, who, and what, is offering.. .You'll be surprised at the number of jobs that come up that are NOT advertised simply because of the "bush telegraph" system. . .. .We WANT to help you - so help yourselves and sign up. The small fee the AFAP charges unemployed pilots to join is a worthwhile investment in your future, hopefully, at this stage of your career.. .(The overseas fees are pretty damn good too, and the loss of licence cover is simply the best).. .And "No", I'm not employed by the AFAP, nor paid a commission Just "another satisfied customer", of an organisation built and run BY pilots, FOR pilots!. .. .Whaddya reckon, BSD?? This is your baby, how do you want to run with it?. .. .Edited to change "whores" to "hordes"!!. . . . [ 09 March 2002, 11:02: Message edited by: Kaptin M ]

More than happy to help, for AFAP or other regonised union members. Also reserve the right to check "the list", if of course there is one, if there is not, then I wont need to check it

Goodonya SOPS & MJM .. I'm (addicted to this forum and) not in disagreement with the sand crab haters, but the fact remains everybody, there are a lot of younger blokes/girls, not involved with '89, that could use a hand at the moment.. ...KM my old mate, I know you bro, and you know me, and we're both aware of the help we recieved from others in years gone past. They're the mates I'll remember forever.. You're ideas are fine, anyway we can help would be appreciated I'm sure.. AFAP,AIPA,AUSTRALIA POST,anyway you can..cheers bro. . . . . [ 14 March 2002, 03:49: Message edited by: Back Seat Driver ]
