Angel April 2-5 2002 A MUST READ!!! OzBash Details

Oz Bash April 2nd-5th 2002

OK folks, everything so far has been yep, you beauty, a pissup, I'll be there. We here in OOPS Ops (Organizing Ozbash PisSup), namely GoGirl and Binoculars, accept that we have the job by default, and that the Bash will be on in Melbourne starting at 1600 local time at a yet to be announced hostelry.
For it to be the sort of bash everybody wants it to be, it's time to get down to reality.

1. HELPERS. Something of the size we are hoping for does not just happen. Binos lives two states away and GG would certainly appreciate some extra help, namely from Melbourne. Not to say "hey I know a great pub, why don't we go there?", but to be prepared to do a little leg work. We need pubs checked out for size, availability of separate rooms, ambience, quality and general appropriateness for the occasion. We need to talk to publicans to advise them that X number of people will be descending upon Melbourne wanting to drink copious amounts of booze, we need a home , their pub is a possibility, and what are they prepared to offer us to get our custom, whether it be hot nibblies, happy hour prices, whatever.

Accommodation still has to be organized, we need to coordinate details of day trips, liaise with the relevant Tourism authority to provide tourist brochures/info for our overseas visitors and anybody else who wants to sample the delights of Melbourne rather than spend the days recovering from alcohol poisoning, as I intend to.

In short, there are a lot of things that can and need to be done. OOPS Ops will not be doing all of them, so if you are one of those from Melbourne who are enthusiastically supporting the idea in principle, and are prepared to help, please email GoGirl at [email protected] (remove nospam) initially just with notification of your willingness to help. Details of your duties can be sorted out later. We don't imagine they will be onerous.

2. NUMBERS!! All we can do at the moment is guess wildly, yet it is patently obvious every other detail is going to depend on how many people will be coming, and the time has come to get some sort of indication.

Yes! Yes! We know you are all in aviation, and you don't know your roster for next month let alone next year, but we need a rough idea. To try and make this a relatively painless exercise, we have devised a rating system:

A Group: I can decide when I take my time off or I have my leave organized already; my finances will not be a problem, neither will transport. The rest of my life can revolve around this week, I wouldn't miss it for the world and if I am alive I WILL be there. I am counting the days already and I am happy to pay a deposit if necessary.

B Group: I really WANT to be there, I certainly won't be pulling out at the last minute claiming lack of money, or that something more interesting has come up, and I'm doing everything I can to make sure the rest of my life makes way for this important event! If I can get the time off, I will be there, but life being what it is, I simply can't guarantee it. I will if necessary make a small deposit to help to defray booking costs etc.

C Group: Do you know how much I'd love to be there? But in all honesty, I can't promise anything; I'm flogging a C206 around the backblocks and earn ******all. I could be unemployed by then, I have no idea about time off or even whether I will have the money to get there. I probably won't know for sure till a couple of weeks before, but please don't count me out! A deposit? You're kidding, I had dog food for dinner last night!

Accommodation:

A2; I want to be in the thick of it. Good standard shared accommodation with other Ppruners in one location sounds fine to me, or alternatively I'm happy to pay a premium to have my own room. Whatever. Put me down as being one of the main group and we'll work out the details of sharing later on.

B2: Not sure at this stage. I'll confirm it later.

C2: I will look after my own accommodation needs.

Night time activities will be the subject of a further survey once we get an idea of numbers

We ask that you give this some thought and answer shortly; each category has a choice to indicate you're not sure, so please don't say nothing because you're not sure yet.
Those of you who expressed interest in the OzBash Part 1, please take the time to
respond to this post as we will need to get at least a rough figure.

The time has come to make some tentative bookings and arrangements as previously mentioned. So please make it easy for OOPS OPS and start to show if you can commit to the event. For those of you who have ever wanted to meet fellow PPRuNers, this will be the best opportunity you will ever get. All responses to [email protected] or [email protected]. (remove the nospam) Please!!

Re the deposit: Nothing known at this stage; it is just a possibility that we may have to pay some sort of deposit on rooms, restaurants, daytime activities etc, and rather than it coming out of our own pockets it might be nice to have a small kitty.

Danny Fyne (aka Capt PPRuNe) will be visiting from the UK, and what a great way this is for us to show our support and appreciation…….just think…..you, too, could be responsible for wrecking THE Captain…. Oz style !!

Ladies and gentlemen, on with the show!

Cheers from OOPS Ops.

GG... thanks for starting the new thread with all the details so far to hand. Dunno if I'd ever have found it, had it not been for Woomera's post of the link on the old thread. Buggard if I saw this thread on the D+G front page list though.

But, as usual, I digress. Fact is that I've been checking out the A2 list. Reckon I've come up with an idea that will ease the accommodation congestion. I will happily ... indeed VERY happily ... share my accommodation with MisNomer!

Howzat fer practicality...?

OzE, as usual, you've had me laughing at an indecent hour with your warped humour

Words mate, merely words...where's some photographic evidence for the lads? You keep on about how 'sweet' our lovely MisN is, so for those who have not a clue as to what the average PPRuNe chick looks like....hehehehe, yeah right ....why not show us a sample of some Bash form, and what there is to look forward to?
Actually, you better not on second thoughts....just on the off chance you might get some stiff compettition in the accomodation sharing side of things

Thanks Oz <K>

I could NEVER refuse you anything GG, so I'll risk the stiff competition!

So THIS is the completely disarming MisNomer

And, now that I'm sure to have everyone's undivided attention ...

This is Miss Spam

Now to go for the RSPCA's Cruelty to Dumb Male Animals Award with this threesome of CrazySpice, yours truly and, of course, the well-known Velvet de PPRuNe

Really oughta be enough, but thought I'd throw in a bit of a look at some of the stuff that goes on at a bash.

Big Red 'L' giving his own interpretation of that most beloved of all phrases ... "see no evil"...???

Now kiss it Vel!

Don't try this one anywhere except an empty tube train, VERY late at night on the London Underground system!

Just remember, yous blokes ... I saw her first!

It's working already OzE

Kap and Night owl, I've updated the lists...your names now appear!!

Keep em coming people, I'm about to seriously secure the venue, and if I can tell them we need to make room for 50-80 that'd be excellent!!

Everyone can respond to this, the category's have been designed to accommodate Everyone, including those of you who might only have the slightest chance! It is a guide to give us an idea of what we can expect.

Looking forward to seeing HEAPS of A category's

Cheers

April 2 -5,

Is there any major event on in Melb at this time, Cricket at the hallowed "G"?, Tennis at the Laver? Lawn bowls at the RSL? The GP?

Just a thought for a mass prune walk in...

Cool

OzEx, your unselfish offer is noted, and as the final arbiter of accommodation sharing details I advise that you are currently twelfth in line on the standby list. However as MisN has been allocated to a certain handsome, sophisticated, urbane, charming, if somewhat portly balding middle-aged gentleman who can be relied upon to keep her safe from the likes of you, the standby list is unlikely to be required. (Benefits of office, mate; sure you don't want to take over the organizing?)

(GG, we are going to have to cross check each other's posts to make sure we're both up to date.)

Looking good folks!

GG!, you've got me sussed better than I have..... Must be something to do with that "female intuition" stuff, dunno I'll ask pseudo 'bout "THAT"!

Me + 1 at this stage, and will also be looking for accom as well. I have been talking to another "Bashee" and we are organising executive air transport from BK to there and need another bod to help fill the a/c.

Anyone want to put their hand up?

GG, deposits etc?

Binocs... well I never! After all I've done to help promote the bash too! You have now forced me to a decision that smacks of pouting and foot stamping. I ain't gunna cum to yer bash now that you've successfully spoiled all me fun.

Tell me this ... have you ever considered the benefits of a life insurance policy for yerself? A REAL short-term policy?

<Thinks ...Guess I better pull down all those pics I just put up...>

Gezz gaunty, you have earned my unbridled admiration. Your courage should be held high as an example to all married men. Speaking for myself, I'm a wimp, and Mrs Terrafirma does not need to know that I have ever seen a picture of MissN let alone the fact that I'd like to have her on my screen

Come on guys, surely you're not that gullible? I bet the ladies are having a good chuckle over how easy it is to delude men

I looked for a photo of Arnie Schwarzenegger to post as mine but didn't know how

Careful BSB and Wiz, I think you'd find yourself with a handful of Planters......
