I was talking to Tim Barow and the rest of the Helipro team at Woodlands Oval the other day. Tim said it was a 13 hr flight in the BK and Huey via Lord Howe and Norfolk Island.

Couple of days later they were hard at work on the Kurrajong Fires, doing a great job.

We in Oz will be forever grateful for the help given by our neighbours from across the ditch. Safe flying to all the chopper guys and I hope we in OZ can help you out in a time of national need.

Hey John, at least you can say your other machine is working on the fires, albeit in an indirect way. Hey maybe you could bill RFS for part of the hours flown on the Kiwi BK

You lost the Rugby, Netball, Cricket, Soccer, Tennis, Swimming, and everything else I can think of.

And you need our Airforce, Navy, and probably Army to keep your butts safe. Thanks for the choppers, we know u fly them well.

1: sport is meaningless when lives are at stake.

RE: kiwi choppers to help fight sydney fires

didnt you guys have a really big thing over there a few years back..??....S61R or HH3...or something like that ? golly green giant ?

I remember reading "NZ WINGS" and there was an article on a monster that needed its own semitrailer of BP/SHELL to follow it around on agspraying missions ??

The aircraft you are referring to was an S-61R, actually operated by the same operator, Helipro, that has the BK-117 and UH-1H over on the fires.

The guy that was flying it when it took a crapper was Garry Mahoney, who is also on the fires flying one of John McDermotts Bell 205s.

Helipro used it for logging down on the West Coast of the South Island. From what I remember Garry had a hydraulics problem with it, some sort of uncommanded bounch and it ended up in the bottom of the dry river bed, right way up but minus a lot of parts. Pilot and Co got out OK.

Talking

I'd like to know if it was deliberate, giving them the c/s Helitak 66 & 68. Very hard to keep a straight face listening to the broad K1W1 accents on the radio.....

Thumbs up

Well I for one would like to thank those KIWI guys for comming over to help with the fires....and as one of those 'other' pilots also 'bombing on the same fires I've got to say it was a pleasure to be on the same task as they were...they are a very reliable, hardworking and likable team...."Good on them!"....The ANZAC spirit is alive and well...thank God! <img src="smile.gif" border="0">
