Is it true SQ have recruited a large number of ex AN pilots in the last few months.

What about those who applied BEFORE the dispute and were interviewed/recruited after 22/3/90?? There's plenty ex-AN in that category. Also, there has not been any explanation regarding '93 cutoff dates. Could someone please explain further. I went to the Ansett wind up party last Monday and it would seem that those who "scabed" are the ones finding employment at the moment; in Singa's, Japan, Korea and Europe. The poor FO's are the ones missing out.

Alhpa41,. .You are very wrong. The fact is that Management take a very close look at prior behaviour before allowing such people into their company!!

Question

Regarding Geoff Lowe's comments. I wonder if he has forgotten that he and I walked through the airport at Melbourne on 'scab patrol' looking for scabs against who he was very vocal. But it wasn't long before he forgot what principles were involved and quietly reapplied to Ansett. And now he again wants the best of both worlds...I'm glad to be away from people like him and consider myself very lucky to have a good job far away....

Alpha,. .. .I know of very experienced Capts, youthful, prime candidates you would think, receiving unsuitable letters from three foreign airlines.. .. .Conversely, less experienced F/Os received the on hold letter.. .. .Naive to think something isn`t going on.. .. .But if the stories in this post are true about Dick Marmon,I think it`s time to be men and accept the situation.

I watched as Geoff enjoyed the trappings fast boats, new 4x4's houseboats etc. A life of expensive toys and endless money. Well I hope Captain Lowe you now struggle like I had to for so long.

Hi people. .. .There seems to be an inference on this thread that some of the "listed" contacted the paper.. .. .I put the following possibility, actually more of a probability, to you:. .. .It is well known that journo's troll Pprune for any goss/dirt on the industry they can dig up for a story. The '89 issue has certainly had more exposure on Dunnunda than any other I can remember, and it would not be in the least bit difficult to right an epic on the subject, and colour it anyway the author sees fit.. .. .With the above in mind I offer this scenario:. .. .Jack Hack, newbie journo with major broadsheet publisher, wants a good story to impress the new boss. Naturally Jack is well aware of any goss/dirt sites on the net, and decides that a particular pilots rumour network will be his target. After all, with the current state of the industry worldwide, and the collapse of one of the countries majors being in the news and all, there must be a good read in there somewhere.. .. .So Jack tunes into Pprune looking for the dirt on something/anything.. .. .Whoa - Jack gets so excited his pants swell - Check out all this stuff about '89 !!! and more importantly check out the hostility and abuse between supposed professionals with whom the general public entrust their lives every day. These guys can't be the same people - I always thought professional pilots were an "erudite" and well adjusted lot.. .. .Jack writes his story on the subject, naming the site, and detailing the animosity and seemingly unprofessional behaviour of some of it's contributors, and naturally colours it even further with a bit of artistic license. Said story is read with interest and some concern by the GP, X% of whom decide to tune into Pprune to ascertain the accuracy of the read, or maybe just to take a look at a site they never knew existed.. .. .Producer Sam Shaft, of a Current Affairs program that airs at 18.30 week nights, let's call it Today Tomorrow, reads story with interest. This could be good for the ratings, Always good to give a dog a kick in the guts when it's down. Sam calls up research team A. "I want some dirt on Aussie pilots - start with that Pprune web site, and I don't want a pretty picture". I want the public scared sh_tless. Researchers have no probs producing segment that is far from flattering. Today Tomorrow has epic ratings the night the story is aired. . .. .Viewers are somewhat perturbed, X% of whom decide to tune into Pprune to ascertain the accuracy of the view, or maybe just to take a look at a site they never knew existed.. .. .Betty Buttshmear, Producer of weekly current affairs program 65 Seconds, is reading ratings stats with interest, and notices a jump in oppositions ratings one night. Betty gets her senior researcher Dave Dirt on the blower - "Dave - I want a story on this and it's gotta be bigger and better than those cruds over a TT". True to form Dave comes back with a doozey, and said story goes to air prime time Sunday 19.30. Tick Tick Tick Tick - Richard Softon Voice Over - "Tonight - You entrust these people with your lives, but should you ? We expose the truth about a respected, until now, profession that will leave you shaking in your boots, and wanting to take the car on that next holiday" . .. .Naturally show includes showing some dubious posts from relevant threads on Pprune, which are none too flattering upon the professional aviators intelligence or sound state of mind. . .. .Viewers are somewhat perturbed, X% of whom decide to tune into Pprune to ascertain the accuracy of the view, or maybe just to take a look at a site they never knew existed.. .. .All other local media outlets jump on the bandwagon, as well as several overseas rags.. .. .Viewers/Readers are somewhat perturbed, X% of whom decide to tune into Pprune to ascertain the accuracy of the view/read, or maybe just to take a look at a site they never knew existed.. .. .Media have new hate target to demonise, and bleed issue for what it's worth for months. Johnny Howard gets the heat taken off him re kids overboard, and Peter Hollingsworth is let off the hook, and stays on as GG.. .. .Aussie pilots are left looking like reject used car salesmen/women.. .. .The above not so far fetched scenario is one of many possibilities, all of which are negative, and the implications are many, for both Pprune, Dunnunda and the Australian industry as a whole. From something as simple as more bandwidth requirements for Dunnunda, and slower access/rostering, through to Australian pilots professional public image and integrity, both here and overseas, and the travelling public's confidence in the industry.. .. .Come on guys - it's time to call it a day.

I am curious and also directly affected by the reference pre 93. It would be great if someone with firm view on this matter could clarify my position. I was employed by ansett a few months before the dispute(and awarded a job in skywest) and was rang several times asking me to come and fly during the worst of it...i think october...from memory there were still no planes flying. I ended up saying no and realised I may never have a chance to fly with Ansett because of that. In july 1992 I was given a job with Ansett. I figure I did the right thing though by some of the posts I would be on the list. Why?

I have deliberately stayed well away from all 89er threads for a long time now, despite the fact that I have many good mates who are 89ers.. .. .Woomera I ask that you, through your contacts with the BIG BOSS, do the following.. .. .1/. Place on record the entirety of Alex Paterson's article in a similar manner to the United/KAL one in the Air Safety section. Clearly the scab list might need to be excised to avoid possible legal ramifications.. .. .2/. Similarly place Dick Holts letter in a place of prominence.. .. .The impact of 1989 on Australian professional aviation is too dramatic and it's ramifications too long lasting for it to deserve any less, despite the naysayers who wish it would all go away.. .. .I note that some former collegues/friends appear on the list(and a lot more don't). Sad really as most were/are good guys that any 89er would enjoy a beer with under different circumstances. . .. .One's prior claim to infamy was stealing headsets from a flying school and selling them, before I even looked on the list I knew he would be there!!!. .. .To all the younger pilots out there who were not around at the time(professionally) read it and weep for country and profession that was destroyed by evil men in big business, Govt and the Labour movement.. .. .It's to late to get Abeles but the surviving perpetrators should fry for what they did to Australia, never mind the pilots <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="mad.gif" /> . .. .Chuck.

Please stop calling him 'captain' geoff lowe. He has no Queens commission and I still remember him as an extremely junior f/o prior to '89, and only rose to prominence in a bastardised system. He's just lowe, and should remove the epaulettes from his pajamas and get on with life like the rest of us. "senior captain" be ******ed, he's just another industrial war criminal. Boo Hoo geoff.

Back Seat Driver. .It didn't take the good ole 89ers long to get back into the gutter did it. Even pleas from the moderator fall on deaf ears. No wonder the events of 89 occured.
