PHYSICS AND QANTAS
I would like to know if anyone out there have been excepted into Qantas without physics, if not does anyone know of any correspondence courses which are available which will give a 'Qantas' approved Physics pass.
Help very much appreciated.

I think QF is pretty specific with their requirements. Year 12 or degree level physics. If no physics then another Yr 12 science subject plus a qantas approved physics bridging course (phone recruitment office for details of approved courses.)

It would indeed be an exception to be accepted without physics. It is a well known fact that it is just not possible to fly an aeroplane without a complete understanding of the finer and more obscure features of quantum physics.

It is a well known fact "Quantum Physics" relates to mathematical theories of physical systems that were developed to account for phenomena that could not be explained by classical physics, these theories are used to interpret atomic and nuclear phenomena.
I often consider black-body radiation and the theory of wave-particle duality when on mid downwind it has infact become part of my checks.
DESCEND WHEN READY I think what Qantas is looking for is an understanding of classical physics and a demonstrated ability to learn at a higher level, so get the bit of paper its not that hard, and once you get over the math you might even find it interesting.

Apart from being a fascinating subject, it has particular application to the operation of aircraft.
It is fundamental to the understanding of the seemingly esoteric but important operational speed limits applied throughout the flight envelope of the aircraft.
Particularly those that operate at high level.
Inertia coupling, brake energy limits, thrust weight ratios are but a few and of course the scientific answer as to why you are rumbling off the end of the runway instead of turning off at the taxiway is contained therein.
Go for it, I promise you, you will not be bored

Gaunty - agree with you completely.
DWR - go for it!
Throttlemonkey - I think you'll find there is quite a grey area between theoretical physics and applied mathmatics.
Now I've got to get back to that Unified Field theory to give myself a chance at that airline job...

Don't knock it! I've just completed a B.Sc (Physics) and so far I can say they were the best three-and-bit (pi maybe?? ) years of my life. Get's a bit obscure at 3rd year level but the labs are always fun....or maybe I'm just a geek !! Some of the Newtonian Dynamics can be applied directly to aviation problems, Cosmology&Astronomy potentially helpful for long night sectors. Schrodingers Cat gerdunken (thought experiment) good for confusing people!!

bad news shaggs QF will not under any circumstance employ a pilot without maths1/physics Mate of mine QF lame on engine line been with company 10+ years qualified multi cir, fo on super connie with hars, not being considered without them! as for me I had to sit both maths and physics bridging courses before I got the job. pain in the ass, but once you get over the shock of having to study hard again you'll learn some interesting stuff. Best bet is Steve Holding (lost phone # try Australian av back issues) in bn. Courses designed specifically for pilots, approved by QF. A bit of hard study but if I can pass ANYONE can. otherwise try rocky university for a correspondence course, long (months) teidous and not directly related to aeroplanes. gotta go boss is calling all the best.

Not that I'm considering joining any airline but just curious how my circumstances would have stood me? I didn't do Yr12 physics but I did physics at uni as part of my B. App. Sc. course???

yeah have another mate who had the same physics units of bsc has been accepted for an interview, he had to provide a reference from the university that it was equv to year 12 thumbs up no worries!
