When do you check the ATIS?
A question for all you flying types out there - I have noticed recently an increasing tendency to notify receipt of an ATIS which is up to half an hour old when calling for taxi. This can have annoying ramifications especially when the duty departure runway has changed during this time.
Would it not be sensible and good operating technique to check the ATIS just prior to calling for taxi clearance to see if it has changed?
What do company procedures say?

If the ATIS has changed between the time that you have checked it and when you start to taxi, Ground should normally pick up on it and advise you of the updated information.
Occasionally they can change every few minutes or so.

That is the purpose of an Alphabet signifier. So the ATS unit will know if you are "up to date". However I agree, one should check again before calling for taxi if a long time has expired since copying the Atis. Even a look out of the window might help....where have I heard that before.
