Qantas flight forced to make emergency landing.

A Qantaslink flight from Sydney to Wagga Wagga had to turn back yesterday and make an emergency landing at Sydney Airport.

The mayor of Wagga, Kevin Wales, was on the flight, returning from a trip to China.

He says 20 minutes into the flight one engine had to be shut down.

"Greg Matthews, the cricketer, alerted the flight attendant to the oil coming from the left engine of the plane," he said.

"She looked and got in touch with the pilot and the pilot announced he was going to turn around and go back to Sydney and we were going to be flying on one engine.

"Anyway it was a good landing."

Perhaps the ATSB could do a study on the likelihood of having an engine failure with a retired Australian test cricketer on board.
