AN Union Bashing by PPRuners and the Gutter Press
Fellow PPRuners,
Since AN stopped flying I have noticed in both the associated threads on this forum and in the News Ltd press that a number of individuals have expressed scorn for former An staff who were union members - further saying that it the was high labour costs facilitated by unions that caused AN's demise, not mismanagement and incompetence that began in the Ables era and ended with Toomey.
There has also been a number of posts by individuals on this forums expressing the opinion that the because of their 'high' wages, AN tech and cabin crew are getting what they deserve.
My question is this:
Weren't the pilots conditions a result of what was offered to the scabs post dispute?, therefore union pressure has not beeen a factor in determining renumeratrion since?.
Or am I missing something here?

I don’t know how the pay & conditions were won. I suspect by negotiation.
However to this outsider it seems that the unions are more interested in making political points for the Labour Party than looking after the members affected by this tragic collapse. Very Sad...

Sea Eagle, you have hit the nail on the head. Unions are trying to make political mileage out of all this to assist the labour Party in the upcoming general election.
Their little demonstration in Canberra confirmed this when Tony Abbott was refused by Burrows to address the crowd. She, in my opinion, is more evil than Hawke but fortunately not as intelligent.

I totally agree with you both, SeaEagle & Whiskery.
It's sad to see some colleagues running around shouting for their jobs back when the company is long gone now. The unions should be focussing on better redundancies than this false hope that all will be well soon, & everyone will go back to what they had.

Yep it was bad management, a management that caved in to Union excesses and the result, a lot of individuls get hurt.
Ansett wages and salaries were way over the odds, Management was too weak to stop the Rort Rot, result, company stuffed, now no jobs.
Yes there is a lesson here, no need for union bashing after all the union was doing its job.
It is management or the lack of management to be precise that allowed the position to become grave and then sold of assets and leased them back to prop up cash flow and stave off disaster.
Don't be fooled QF is not really far away from exactly the same result, get last years annual report and have a qualified forensic accountant look at it, move your money out before it is too late, telecomms is a good bet post the WTC disaster.

T:- A bit of a generalisation there, old son, about AN wages and salaries being over the odds. I can't comment about aircrew salaries, but I do know that a QF chap doing the same job as I is $6,000/year better off than I am. There is no prospect of QF/AN parity with my prospective new employer, either.
Whiskery:- I suspect that Ms Burrows is following in the footsteps of Crean, Ferguson, et al, and is using her position to enhance the possibility of getting her nose in the Labour party trough once she has served her time.
Kind regards,
TheNightOwl.
