Question 737 Training

Does anyone have any info on Premair? I was hoping to attend this training school in Phoenix, USA to get my B737 type rating before heading off to Virgin Blue but I just heard that they are not FAA approved. Has anyone else heard this? Also is it a problem if I do go through their course if they are not FAA approved will CASA still convert when I come back - I don't want to spend the money only to find out that I don't have the right paperwork.

Most of the Virgin guys go to ...Jettech or Techjet , cant remember the exact name ...but it's located in Pheonix. They are farmiliar with the virgin blue operating procedures so give them a try.

Cheers Vince.

VB recommends PremAir for 737 type ratings. The test is actually done by a FAA examiner, so I don't think approvals are a problem. . .Jetech are no longer, Premair is in its place.

Thanks. I had heard that Premair was the new place in Phoenix too but I had also heard that they are NOT FAA approved, and at this time cannot give FAA checks. I heard this from my friend in the US, he called them to get an American rating but they said they couldn't train him because their course wasn't approved by the FAA yet. If this is true, then any VB guys coming back from there haven't met the VB requirements of doing an FAA course so I'm worried!! Thanks again for your help though guys, I'll try to investigate further!!

Was just wondering why you have to get and pay for your own endorsement?? Isnt it written in the CAR's that an employer is liable for the training costs of its employees? This includes type emdorsements and rating renewals.

I cant remember the section, and dont have the regs handy.

Premair charge $10,495US. Inclusive is the rating, manuals, examiner fees, and accomodation. The accomodation includes breakfast, tranfers to & from airport and training centre. . .You have to find your own travel arrangments to & from the states. Try their web site www.premair.com for further info.

Question

Anyone interested in doing a full 737 type rating in Europe? It includes 2 hours of base training in the a/c and 50 hours of line training on RPT routes. The price is about 16,500USD. Ideal for low timers as this is a co-pilot type rating with no conditions imposed on it (CASA recognised). Two of us are going, we need four more candidates.

Yes, but AFAIK the FAA don't have 'co-pilot' endorsements. Your endorsement on the a/c entitles you to act in any capacity.

This might be advantageous when it comes to converting to the Oz endorsement ie get given a command instead of CP only endorsement.

SW3MALE. .The CAR's do not say anything about employment conditions. You would need to refer to the award for that. Paying for your own endorsement is a relatively new concept in this country however it is common practice in most others. Renewals the same. If thats the way VB operate, thats it, take it or leave it!

Thanks everyone - I have been off line for a while. I will check out Premair's website thanks for that. I also found information on Pan Am in Miami. It seems they have a 737 EFIS course and they are offering discounts to Virgin Blue guys, so I may well go there instead. Any one got any info on these guys?

Pan am has a 500USD discount for VB pilots. They offer a course with 32 hours in the sim but only 24 hours of ground instruction. Unless you have some previous EFIS experience, you can expect nothing but a struggle. They told me that some VB pilots with just over 1000 hours had a tough ride. I think that Premair in Phoenix (former Jettech personnel) has a lot more experience with individual training and they have a good reputation for training low timers.

Guys I did my sims at the Pan Am training academy and the simulator equiptment is fine, but not the best. The accomodation is terrible that they booked us in(the big pink building over the road),but the ground school i did elsewhere.. .Good luck guys and enjoy it.
