16000 Ansett Jobs -Australian Government Response
It was pleasing to hear in the Australian Parliment today the comment made by the Minister for Tourism That the failure of Ansett was "Just a Small Blip" I am sure us 16000 employees plus all those that feed Ansett consider it more than that. Then it was noted many ministers of this government joking about this matter in the background. What a sad sad country we live in. Thanks for the support Mr Howard and Mr Anderson. Despite the current polls you may get a bigger shock than you realise at the coming election.

So you are going to vote to put Beasley in office to save all our jobs are you.
No wonder AN went down the drain using that form of lodgic.
I didn't see the joking, and I agree that a small blip is an understatement but the staff who are employable, out chasing knew jobs and prepared to work under new conditions will hopefully have jobs very soon.
We, the rest of the Aus tax payers should not be footing the bill for AN staff entitlements.
I bet all I am worth (not much) if the shoe was on the other foot you guys wouldn't be sending cheques in the mail.
I do wish you all good luck.

Firstly I just want to say that I sincerely hope EVERY ex Ansett employee gets ALL of their entitlements.......
However this should be from Air NZ, especially as they are still operating, and NOT the Australian taxpayers.
IF it is funded by the Australian taxpayers then I am sure that all the ex Compass and Southern Cross employees would appreciate the same consideration?
Also I do NOT think that business in Parliament today was worthy of our elected representatives.
(Disclaimer...... This post is an accurate reflection of my opinions, it should not upset anybody, if it does it is accidental, please accept my humble apology.)
Best regards to ALL,

Did anyone see Alan Jones on the today show this morning?
I think he had some valid points. The demise of Ansett is not just about 16000 direct employees. Its about the industry as a whole and all the follow on business Ansett provided.
Air travel is now an essential service that needs to be provided, fairly and competitively.
Would we all throw our hands in the air and say that our electricity provider was a privatised venture that went broke due to mismanagement.... Big deal??... No because we would be in the dark and cold! We would want the service back. Regardless of whose fault it was!
Not necessarily my opinion, just another angle presented to me this morning that got me thinking.

Pole Vaulter....try and keep things in perspective. Whether you like it or not, the sun and the moon do not revolve around Ansett. Just ask those who lost their jobs when HIH, One-Tel, Pasminco plus all those others who have lost their jobs in small businesses that have gone to the wall over the years. Perhaps you should also give a thought to the 30,000 workers at Boeing that are about to be laid off.
Unfortunately when these situations occur, the ex-employees want to cling to something or someone who appears to have answers....in this case it appears that you are being led by the nose by the ACTU/TWU and they are using you as fodder in a political fight with the government.
If you have any doubt, read the article by Geoffrey Thomas in the West Australian 20/9.
As Rod Eddington said back in '97, "Ansett was a great airline but a lousy business". Something had to give and as it transpired, it was not going to be the ACTU.
Not much point winning the battle if you lose the war is it?
Stop whinging about the Government and get on with the future...if you have to leave Australia to get a job...do it..you will have no regrets.

Nunc est bibendum
MMM in Sydney this morning reported that both American Airlines and United airlines are laying off 20,000 employees- EACH!!!
Sort of puts the Australian airline industry into context!

Under the leadership of Hawkie foreign pilots were welcomed into this country with open arms, and now.......KB who was then a member of the Hawke government is against it saying it isn't in the best interest of Australia, or fair to those who have lost their jobs. hmmmm
No..I'm not an 89er, still in short pants in those days.

Hypocrisy - the bible of any politician - arises again.
COmpanies with major debt go under, but only the government responds to Ansett.
Why?
Simple.
How many of the working men and women in the other industries have such a high profile represented by the scum bags of the ACTU and TWU?
The ACTU has selectively ignored its membership over many a long year.
It has been led by narrow intellects from Bob Hawke on.
It is indeed a foolish organisation.
Why should the employees of HIH, One-Tel, or Pasminco, be treated as lesser worth than the employees of Ansett?
Of course they should not.
So maybe we can expect a levy on our phone bills for One-Tel, insurance premiums for HIH, and zinc cream for Pasminco workers.
Wake up Australia!

To quote a former PM of questionable morals;having to pay tax to support someone else`s family, when they are some of the people who helped screw my family ,is nothing short of an obscenity and Howard should be sacked.
On another note, why does everyone blame Air New Zealand when it had been asett stripped well before the final deal with Murdoch.i think that there is a bit of sweat breaking out on some of the pollies;there were some shady deals done to facilitate this deal.Murdoch fell over himself to dump Ansett once Virgin was about to start as he would never rid himself of it once the competition started. If you are going to pay these people from a foreign owned company any redundancy payments, then make Murdoch pay back the $600`000`000 he creamed off AIRNZ.
On another note;now that Ansett is out of the scene,we get all that terminal space available and what a time for a new start up;at last there is a chance for a low cost airline similar to some of the UK low cost carriers and not just a few excess seats that QF might deign to throw at the market at the last minute.
