Question The "storm from the west", will they fly again?

Will Flight West return to full RPT services in QLD and beyond? Have they found a buyer, will there be more F100's in our skies?

How are Kendells, Skywest and Hazelton going, have they found buyers yet?

[Dow Jones] Hazelton administrator Sims Lockwood expects to pick a preferred bidder for the NSW regional carrier by end of next week after initially telling creditors a decision would be made by the end of January. Spokeswoman says two groups, a local venture capital group and experienced airline operator, are currently in the race but she won't talk financial details. Hazelton was last year sold to Ansett for A$27 million after a hotly contested battle against domestic rival Qantas.

There was supposedly a news item on the ABC about the sale of FWA this morning.

Something to do with the sale not being able to go through for two more weeks due to problems between AF and FWA. Have searched high and low on the web for details with no result.

Anyone know any more?

Cool

I would think any potential buyer would sit on his wallet until an Anset/Tesna deal is concluded. The biggest single problem for any buyer of a regional airline will be CRS distribution, hence continueing reliance upon Ansett.

It's a pity FWA didn't remain in the Qantas CRS system, where it started from in 1987. It's then management saw it enjoyed the best of both worlds.........

The TL refueller tells me there are 5 buyers keen on FWA, including Mac-air/Jet - craft and Aeromil.

The TL refueler has got it right more than once before.

Jets, whatever their vintage, cost a few more bikkies to operate than the average turbo-prop.

Let's just hope that 32bits has been able to get the best deal.

Properly handled this company will exceed all expectations!!

Edited for the benefit of Torres!

Torres, as Sir Jo said, if you sit on the fence in Quueensland, it is probably made of barbed wire.

The result is obvious.. . . .You have got to have the guts to go for one or the other. QF are Top Dogs now, good luck to them, there is only one way to go for them.

Yes, two ways for FWA, UP or OUT.

"TO INFINITEY AND BEYOND". . . .To quote the Townsville refueler.

The "storm from the west", will they fly again?

Taking you quite literaly Bananabender, we have never stopped flying.

If you investigate the work thet has been done by the F100s over the past months you will be astounded.

No fanfare, no help from those on high, just pure honest flying. Even the BIG Q would find it difficult to achieve what has been done.

On'ya guys!

Question

Torres,. .Thanks for the history lesson regarding FWs move from QF to AN. Are you suggesting that if FW had remained with QF then Sunstate would not have been allowed to grow to be what it is today, at FWs expense? Junior wouldn't have given equity to QF either...

ndeke 100,. .The rates I negotiate are usually pretty fluid until around 0400 Saturday. After that, all bets are off.

Cheers

True dirty, FWA have been very busy with charters which is very good to see. I for one hope they find a good buyer and grow. The Fokker 100 is ideal for Australian regional/leisure routes. A larger fleet of Fokkers operating on routes that the CRJ's once operated would be far more successfull. The EMB120 is a money marker. Regional QLD needs competition.

bent, I thnink you will find Aeromil is trying to sell the aircraft, not buy the airline, they already own an airline (Sunshine Express).

Visually challanged Fredrick can see that FW and the other AN regionals with the possible exception of Skywest are doomed if AN fails to get airbourne, which seems more likely with each passing hour. Looks like I'll be getting about 2cents in the dollar if I'm lucky.

ABC Net News. .Posted: Fri, 8 Feb 2002 14:46 AEDT

Skywest Airlines rescue deal stalls

A multimillion dollar Western Australian deal to rescue regional carrier Skywest Airlines from the Ansett collapse, is stalled.

There are worrying similarities with the delay over the sale of Ansett II.

The Skywest deal, accepted by Ansett administrators in December, was due to settle a week ago.

But spokesman and former Skywest chief executive officer Bill Meeke says third party lease agreements are the sticking point.

"Things like the aircraft for example, we really can't operate an airline without aircraft so that matter has to be finalised and that has been causing problems," he said.

Another nasty surprise awaits the new owners - a potentially massive increase in insurance premiums in the aftermath of September 11.

The consortium is meeting today with administrators Andersen in a bid to resolve the outstanding issues.

Mr Meeke says investors remain confident, but cannot wait forever.

I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I feel it took more guts to have Qantam and Gate 49 - and to put service to the Queensland rural sector ahead of commercial alliances. I appreciate, on that point, 32bits and I may agree to disagree.

And it was Jack Carman, not Jo, that passed the comment regarding the possible personal danger of having one foot each side of a barbed wire fence!

G'Day DirtyLittleFokker. You must be one of the few "original" YC'er left?

Regardless, I hope YC survives. Queensland needs a competitive air service.

Torres,. .When FW was flying to Longreach, we had great fun looking for certain names on the manifest and printing on their boarding passes "Flight West: Official Carrier of the Qantas Museum".

Can't do that any longer, more's the pity: but the change to a QF flight number would have happened much sooner if FW had remained as a QF hosted carrier. Non?

Cheers

Maybe Mate, maybe not. You were privy to happenings after I left, not I.

But you will recall the Boss and I shared a singularly independent phiolosophy. And in all honesty, Virgin has proven an independent (or semi independent) can survive.

You and I both had significant achievements, even though we had philosophical differences.

But it's all water under the bridge now. Sad to see the real YC disappear from Aussie skies.

. .I presume this relates to your intake of the amber fluid, otherwise it is too cryptic for me!. .

I've heard that there will be an announcement mid-late next week. The new FWA fleet will only be 2 Fokker 100's and 3-4 EMB 120's. The J32's, F28's and 3 EMB120's have been sold.

Those from within say all will be revealed by Friday. A hot tip is it will involve another Australian Aviation company that has been around for many years, start guessing.
