Cloncurry Sam,
What a change a week brings.
First 2c in the $, then 5 Fokker 100s.
The Fat Lady is about to sing, but for whom is the question?
G'day Torres. Not quiet the last YC'er but close.
There have been those of us that have seen the potential of YC and believed, and those that have not.
The obsticales have been removed, and to borrow a phrase:
"I'm excited!"
Onya Struth!

FL CH. For purely personal reasons and because many good staff are or were in YC, I too hope the airline survives.
"Those from within say all will be revealed by Friday."
Do you anticipate that Friday may occur sometime within the next few months?
It'll be a long hard road back to commercial reality and viability, next time totally within a highly competitive environment and without the benefit of the Western Queensland contract.

BRISBANE, Feb 28 AAP - Administrators of failed Queensland . .regional airline Flight West hope to be able to announce a buyer at . .the end of next week.. . Administrator Peter Geroff of Ferrier Hodgson said today he was . .negotiating with a consortium of Australian and overseas investors . .who were not affected by the collapse of the Tesna buy-out of . .Ansett.. . The deal now under negotiation was based on Flight West's . .existing business which included mining company charters out of . .Townsville, flights between Brisbane and Gladstone and charter . .flights operated on an ad hoc basis.. . "So the survival of Ansett or otherwise wasn't integral to their . .proposals," Mr Geroff told AAP.. . "I am cautiously optimistic that we will be able to conclude or . .certainly have a contract in place towards the end of next week.". . Flight West went into voluntary liquidation in June last year . .when then owners, the Buchanan family, claimed the company's assets . .exceeded its liabilities by $6 million and were enough to pay all . .creditors.. . But Mr Geroff said that since then, the value of the aircraft . .had fallen, partly as a result of the downturn in aviation after . .the September 11 terrorist attacks and because of the collapse of . .Ansett the same month.. . The regional airline had used Ansett's ground handling . .facilities and booking system until Ansett collapsed in September.. . It began using the system again when Ansett was reactivated in . .December.. . Ferrier Hodgson were appointed as administrators on December 4 . .and a meeting of around 3,500 creditors on January 8 voted to try . .to sell the business as a going concern.. . Mr Geroff said he had been seeking a buyer for Flight West since . .then.. . The company owes about $33 million to secured creditors and $22 . .million to unsecured creditors, with employee entitlements . .totalling about $6.5 million.. . Flight West employed around 430 people before it was placed in . .voluntary liquidation.. . Mr Geroff said it now employed around 100 full-time and . .part-time employees but no more were expected to lose their jobs . .after the expected deal was signed.. . AAP

Heard today the deal was done 2 days ago. . .So who are Flight Wests new owners?. .During the last 2 weeks I've heard Virgin, Singapore, Aeromil/Sunshine Express, MBA and Heavylift could be possible buyers.

Bentandtwisted,. .. .I don't think "deal" done two days ago was the sale of FWA but an important "step" upon which the sale depended.. .. .Latest info indicates that there are still a few legal hoops to jump through over the next few weeks.. .. .Don't think any of your rumoured buyers are in the hunt. But who knows?? . .. .Firmest indication I can find of a sale is bottom line on the page "The Flight West Story" of the revamped FWA website at www.flightwest.com.au. . . .If any body sees the Fat Lady hanging around, shoot the bitch!! . . . . [ 08 March 2002, 13:35: Message edited by: ndeke 100 ]
