new 800's for QF
Evertonian
I believe there have been somewhere between 40-60 ex AN pilots employed for the 737 pool at QF. Anyone confirm?
If so, congrats to the "lucky" ones & commiserations to the GA guys.

Sure would be a cramped 737 flight deck with a SO up there Buster! . .I think if there were direct entry to the domestic fleet, we would have heard the nashing of teeth way before now.. .Good to see QF getting new equipment. Lets hope this year is a hell of a lot better for Oz aviation than the last one.. .Let the massive hiring begin!!!
Buster,
QF has employed about a dozen AN 737 F/O's, 9 on contract and 3 as direct entry seconded to the 737 on a temporary basis. A good dozen other AN pilots have been employed as 744 S/O's. We have as a group no problem with temporary contracts to cover short term requirements - training is at full speed on the 737 I believe. All NZ domestic flying is by contract pilots in old AN aircraft - QF colours.
The biggest grievance is the company using charter aircraft on trans tasman flying. Pilots have very unstable rosters as this flying is taken away from them, mid roster, and given to charter operators. Thank goodness we use airbridges so that at least you get the pax onboard before they can realize their QF ticket did not actually get them on a QF plane - QF pilots or flight attendants.

Nunc est bibendum
There are currently 36 F/Os and no captains on the 737 under contract.
There are six F/Os and seven Captains listed for the 767.
As Mud pointed out, some of the AN 'contract' F/Os have progressed into QF proper and have been allocated seniorority numbers and been 'seconded' on contract to the other aircraft types.
These arrangements stay in place while the QF training system goes at 100% until there is no more requirement for the contract pilots. Methinks that could be another twelve months or so yet.
Hope that helps to clarify.
