Question Short Wave Radio

Can anyone recommend a good short wave radio that doesn't cost a fortune so I can pick up Radio Australia on?

Thumbs up

Go and visit your local Tandy or Dick Smith Electronics store. They should have some cheap radios that can pick up Radio Australia on.

You mean Queensland has finally seceded from Australia, EPIRB??

Your profile shows you as downtown BNE.

Any of the "usual" Japanese brands are pretty good - Sanyo, Akai, or whatever.

By why not just click onto Aunty through your computer...far better clarity.

I have an el cheapo one from Dick Smiths, that worked fine for a year or so in Vietnam.

It is a Chinese made Digitor A-4338 that I bought in Brisbane, but several years ago........

D Smiths has a good variety. But, suggest you pay the extra $ and get a digital frequency readout display. Then, get a 'long wire' also. The telescopic one that comes supplied rarely works well. Lastly, check if the unit has a BFO switch. This will allow Volmet and HF aircraft listening.
Rough estimate would be around $350 AUD.

There are heaps of cheap radios that can pick up short wave, but most are useless for actually LISTENING to short wave as they wander of freq and you have to keep retuning every minute or so. Dunno how to pick a good cheap one.

Having been away from home for many years I have made it a study to find the best shortwave to pick up news.

There is, in my opinion, only one worthwhile purchasing.....the Sony 7900G. It is very small, has perfect digital frequency and runs on a variety of power sources. have used it throughout the Pacific, Asia and Europe. Always picks up a signal. Very definitely worth the noney.
