Too old??
I'm 24 and already got my PPL. I am plaining to do my CPL (all command hrs ME), ME/IR and Instructor Rating within the next year. After that I am planning to do a 3 year Degree in Aviation Mgmt and Instruct at the same time. So when I finish all this I will be 28 have 3 years instucting (hopefully some ME/IR instructing)and a degree in Aviation.
I am not really aiming at a 747 job but jet or turboprop one day would be nice. I hold a british and Australian passport so I'm not just limited to Australia but I would like to stay in Australia.
Have I missed the boat? Am I taking the right path?
I would like to see anyones thoughts.
Thanks

No, you're not too old.
I started learning to fly @ 26 in '83. Apart from a bad patch in the early 90's with various companies going broke, I've been continously employed as a pilot since '86.
The industry is the most bouyant that I have seen but remember it is cyclical and will no doubt have a down turn some time.
Go for it !

Can of worms stuff, but do the degree for the right reasons, not because you think it will give you a job, it won't and nor should it. I did mine and have no regrets. I learnt a lot and most importantly it taught me to "think"! (And the social scene is disgracefully fantastic).
I'm 28, am still training (!) after getting into and out of aviation for a while to travel and play rugby overseas. At the end of the day it's like anything: if your good you're hired I reckon. Age is important due to the investment companies put into you (you're actually graded on it in the selection process!). As your age may be against you it just means you've got to prove yourself better, no matter which direction you take.
As a side comment, please don't instruct unless it's something you want to do for the right reasons. I've had in the past too many instructors who are professional Trevor Thom parrots not interested in me but their own goddam hours. Lead to a few heated discussions in ops rooms when I'm paying $180 an hour to someone full of their own self worth and FA-18 wannabe patches on their flying jacket.
Good luck with it all.

Firstly, thanks for the replys.
I would like the degree for a few reasons. 1: Didn't finish the HSC
2: I don't think the bridging courses look that great to the airlines?
3: I would like to do Tertiary level physics and math (also helps get past those stupid numerical tests)
4: Lastly I would like to have a degree and would find Aviation Management really interesting (hopefully intergrate the ATPL theory)
I agree I shouldn't take the Instructor path if its not really want I want to do, but do you think any instructors really want to be there? It is probably one of the only guaranteed jobs in the industry. I don't think there is any other path, with 200 TT maybe 50 to 60 ME what are the other options?
