Question Tiger Moth fly-over of Brisbane

How did the Tiger Moth fly-over of Brisbane go on Saturday? I was out of town and missed it.

Whoops, was that me?

Not as many planes as hoped for.
About 80 or so in total i think. Apparently it looked pretty impressive from the ground
It went without incident except for a little bingle between 2 austers on the runway
Cheers

Were there any Kiwi moths taking part? I know back in Feb at the NZTMC AGM there were a few murmurs of interest!

Sadly, through nobody's fault obviously, the day it was held the weather was very overcast, making it difficult to view the aircraft over Brisbane.

Thumbs up

From a particant's viewpoint, it went rather well!

Sadly only 30 Tigers lined up on the day [combination of "Wimps & Weather" was one quote], with one unable to start and pushed off.

Over 80 a/c got away in under 16 minutes ["Tell SYD ATC that, please!", was tonight's phone comment from a mate!], although 100 pilots registered at the briefing. 3 dropouts enroute [didn't hear a word about any Auster biff, PD] would make it 96, so pick a number in between.

As LAME says, the vis dropped as we progressed, but 400ASA film must be OK as my observer's photos are better than the glances I snatched while trying to keep station.

Still, it was the biggest flypast/formation of its kind in this country since WWII. It worked safely and one can hardly wait to see what Lang dreams up next!!

Yet another unique aviation event following on the heels of FASOB. Time for a rest.

The ferry to BNE is another story [one of many ]; 102kt groundspeed up the LOE out of BK in a Tiger?

G'day

Angry

It was very impressive despite the less than 200 a/c. Although the timing was about 1 hour earlier than advertised in the Quest newspapers. Chermside carpark was full of people just before 1100. I wonder how long they hung around for?!
I was lucky I live under the chermside - strathpine track...

It looked great on the ground at YCAB before liftoff, it looked great from the ground at YRED when they flew overtop, and it looked pretty damn spectacular beating through the mob in the opposite direction at 140kts+...!

Sorry Feather #3, that woulda been me...

A combination of bad vis (about the worst I've ever seen), and some confusion with the lead chopper, and I was re-living The Return Of The Jedi when the good guys flew straight into a swarm of oncoming Tie Fighters!

To everyones credit (is was close, but not that close), they all kept height and heading, as did I, and there was no problem. Dropped down to 500 and landed on the non-duty RWY.

Overall, great day!

Cheers,
Turbofan

Cool

Turbo,

Didn't affect me; I was too busy keeping station with my section leader to look anywhere else!

Thanks for the apology, though. At least you changed level. The C210 who went across the mob at the same level near Burpengary [?] didn't miss a beat. Some doubt that he even saw another a/c in the sky!!??

Glad the spectators enjoyed it. There was good feedback from a couple of shopping centres.

G'day

Hey Feather #3. I was in a C182, just to let you know...

I was in contact with 'RingMaster' the whole time, but he was understandably under a bit of pressure. It was just a matter of momentary confusion between us both, not any form of incompetence on our parts.

I think overall it was a great effort by all involved!

What type were you flying? Uh, hang on, just checked your first post. A Tiger huh, that must've been painful from Sydney...

Cheers,
Turbofan
