Red face Air Security Officers - Authority?

Bit worried about a weekend newspaper suggestion that ASO's will "not be answerable to the Captain".

There was no expansion on that, but it underlies a very worrying and cowboyish attitude. Whilst this could be a very good idea, I have a feeling this is all being done very half @ssed.

Question

I read the same article and was very concerned about that statement. The same article also said that the regs did not have to be changed to enable the ASOs to travel on board - if this is true then how is it that they are a law unto themselves when considering CAR 224 (3)?

Just e-mailed Senator Chris Elisson (Justice Minister) about a lot of aircrews apprehension about havinh ASO's on board and pointing out the CAR's mentioned above. Will be interesting to see if he bothers to reply, probably not.

You should have a look at the procedures then. You'd be even more worried then!
