Well we (my wife and 2 kids) dropped everything, moves up North, camping/caravanning for 6 months doing the single engine scenic bit. Moved onto a multi piston job and now have a great job flying multi turbine. Two and a half years of sticking our necks out and it payed off. It just requires that first step to get your self in the employers office. The jobs are there, but you need to go and find them.

A.S.

dont get me wrong champ, as you said, you have a job and more power to you. My attempt at humour was feeble.

Although, to get a job with a bare commercial is a pretty mean feat. To say in one post :

[quote] Got a well paying single job, but I knew both the owners..... cant be bothered pulling my self off up north hanging around like a spare aunty at a wedding, so I may as well stay here!

and then in the same thread post all about sacrificing all you have and tryhards need not apply and all the other stuff is a little bit of a kick in the teeth to those "spare aunty's" who have given up family, friends and the like and are still currently looking for a job. I am not saying you got a handout, but your first post would indicate you got the "the show" a little easier than it will be for others. Including me. So keep on loving it, I know I would.

sound fair..??

radar..

Don’t get me wrong, I know how lucky I am, but I also had to sacrifice alot of things to get where I am.... Got rid of my fiancee because she couldn’t hack being second best to flying, shifted many Kilometers from a place where I had a decent lifestyle, plenty of money and heaps of friends, all in the name of flying! all this at 24 years old. So I have done the hard yards, and will keep on doing them, and I refuse to let the current state of aviation get me down. My advise to any one who is sitting out there not doing anything, waiting for some tosser of a chief pilot to employ you, is to put as many things around you that you can find that will motivate you. If that means a poster of an F14 or a cockpit poster of a 152, then do it! anything that will keep your mind on aviation... If you have to work behind a bar or at KMART, which I do as well as flying, then look at all of the people around you, who are stuck in a dead end job winging about not being able to do anything with their lives and think ` I am better than them'. That should be motivation enough for you to want to get out there and fix the situation that you are in.

I read once a paragraph in a book that I modified slightly to suit myself and now live by it. It reads as follows.

The profession of pilot is not simply the ability to fly and command an aeroplane with precision, skill and verve. It also involves self imposed discipline as a way of life, an ongoing resolve year in year out, to operate at all times and in all circumstances within defined parameters of safety and aircraft performance.

I hope it helps.

My apologies to anybody that was offended by my `spare aunty at a wedding' comment.

Regards

AS.

The bottom line is. If you want a job that badly you will eventually get one. However you must not stop at anything and make personal sacrafices.

It wont happen over night but it will happen.

So get of this bloody board, get of ya arse and find work. Simple. PPRUNE will not get you a job.

Thumbs up

G'day 429,

The trip up with Dave was tops - we had a ball everywhere we went.

Now comes the nitty gritty of finding a job...there could be a few things on the horizon but i won't go getting too excited.

By the way, the highways are still fine, the Wet still hasn't hit really. Enjoy the trip up, you'll love every minute of it.

Cheers,. .TL

Radar,

Whats the job scene like up Darwin way. I will be making the pilgrimage up there mid Feb so any heads up would be muchly appreciated. I would be up there now but 69% in ATPL nav took care of that (Transition Layer et al take note u mongrels)! Amber therapy sounds brilliant though.

A.S. At this moment I can completely relate to giving up the nice life for ur dreams, so I'm with you mate. Get ur foot in the door anyway u can.
