VB ground crew?
Hi, . .I am thinking of applying for the "Ground crew" positions at VB. I have no experience as a groung member but i have done alot of work experience with QF. I was just wanting to know if there are any ground crew on board here in either VB/QF and would they please write about there experinces. I have no idea what to expect if i get an interview and also what the job would be like. . .. .thanks

Be prepared to spend lots of time on the check in counter! Not working for DJ, I don't know what their roster is like, but most airlines keep you on check in for years before you can move on. It's an experience thing. Tell 'em you like working with people & taking the initiative to get things done. Works most of the time, but, then again, I haven't got a job yet either!!!

Self spent some time emptying the 'honey cart' with a few corporate operators many yrs ago. Made some good friends (after I'd taken a shower), and ended up doing many other jobs as a result of being employed as a 'Hanger-Rat'. Managed also to work with LAME's - all hands on stuff. All this while I studied for my CPL theory. The hints I learnt from the LAME's helped me greatly once I eventually scored a job in remote Australia. It's worth your while.

ozflyboy. .Ground crew at Virgin is quite different to QF. At VB you would be multi skilled, meaning trained in everything. This includes the ramp and even pushbacks. Most are cross trained check in and ramp with some trained as reserve cabin crew. If you want to learn everything there is to learn then VB is the place.. .At the interview dress smart and act smart. Show Virgin Flair.
I was an AN ramp rat, up till 5th March. All I can say is, good luck trying to get a job with DJ or QF or anyone else for that matter. I shouldn't be sounding negative, but there are literally scores of experienced and willing people who have already applied and either not been contacted or flatly rejected. I was a fully licenced leading hand on the ramp with a Cat 3 ADA and applied for DJ weeks ago with no reply. I know QF don't want or need us as we've already been thru their process and been knocked back.
They won't make a move until they're good and ready and they will be (and can afford to be) very choosy.
Don't give up though, cause DJ will step right into are shoes and probably become what we were set to become!

I thought as much too Rampdog. A friend applied for a ground job at DJ after AN went under and got a call up for a initial interview last week. They are certainly not ex AN. I've heard a lot of the initial ground jobs are initally part time to begin with also. Good luck rampdog hope you find something soon!

When DJ first accepted applications, I think they preferred people without experience, ie; no pre-conceived ideas. I am unaware of any ex AN people there in MEL, but I don't keep in touch as much as before. Good luck to anyone applying.
