QF B737 pilot bases to change?
Does anyone have any idea what will happen (if anything)to the traditional QF B737 bases of SYD,MEL and BNE with the new A/C and strategy.
Various press and internal releases have stated that the B737's will be moved away from major trunk routes and it has also been stated that the B767's/A330's will do all the "shark patrols" (East coast runs).
Will these new B737 routes start/finish in SYD,MEL or BNE?
If not,it would mean paxing the first/last leg of every pattern? Would that be viable or will we see different bases?
Anyone in "the know?"

Now lets see from facts we know if change of 737 bases is likely. QF reckon they have around 38 two class 737's at the moment. They have ordered 15 x 737-800 as one class a/c.
QF have announced intention to convert a number of existing 737 a/c to create a fleet of "around" 40 one class 737 a/c.
This would leave around 13 - 15 737's as two class.
Now theyr'e not going to fly 767/320 along the East Coast at off peak times, but they do need to take care of that business market, therefore retention of number of two class 737's to operate Mel - Syd - Bne off-peak and use the larger a/c at peak times.
Also are'nt the majority of 737 heavy maintenance facilities at MEL ?
The one class 737 will be used on leisure routes and flights where there is "little or no demand for business travel." With half hourly weekday frequencies now fact Mel/Syd and Syd/Bne they won't be flying big a/c at off peak times.
Given the leisure traffics largely originate from Syd and Mel to the Centre and Qld the one class fleet can easily rotate through Mel and Syd. Therefore no great reason for QF to change bases, unless crews flying placement legs as pax , then expect bases to change to
suit the market.
