Practice Ozbash P!ssUP (POP UP) in Cairns Oz
Hear Ye, hear ye! Cum one, cum all! Roll up to the first annual Practice Ozbash P!ssUP, aka "Pop Up" in Cairns, tropical Far North Queensland, Australia!
When : Saturday, 15 December, 2001
Where : North Queensland Aero Club, Cairns.
Time : Start anytime after 0600UTC.
This is the event that, last year, was known as the "Mini-Gatbash in CNS". The organisers, OzExpat and Compressor Stall want this year's event to be bigger and better than ever! This is coz the NQAC barely knew we were there last year!
If ya can't get to the REAL Gatbash, or don't feel like going all that way for a beer and a lay, cum to Cairns! Besides, we ALL need the practice, if we're to have any hope at all of keeping pace with 10W, aka Dubya. The bloke has an absolutely legendary capacity that is sure to test our best drinkers to the limit.
So, who's gunna be there? Nominations on this thread in the Bashes forum please.
We realise that you're all working type folks and that rosters may not yet be clear for you, but all we need at this stage is a rough indication, for planning purposes.
If there's lots of takers, we'll clearly need to arrange a "recovery" session for the next day!

I spent a considerable amount of time today, with assistance from sprocket, in researching doemstic schedules for Qantas and a number of regional airlines. Also looked at fares and the news is not good for those who might otherwise have planned to fly to CNS for the Pop Up.
I will leave the thread here, as well as its' namesake in the Bashes Forum, for the time being, but reckon it's safe to say that it'll be a non-event.
To that end, any takers for a less formal get together on Friday 14 Dec at the same venue? I'm pretty sure that even Stallie might be able to make that one...
Anone else got an idea that might save the Pop Up from premature extinction?

Stallie... I can make it any day on or after 12 December. Being as how we're unlikely to see anyone flying in for it (even Binos has had to pull the plug 
), looks like we can set up whatever date works for all the PPRuNeaholics in CNS.
You're on the spot there, so reckon ya can scout around and see what date is best for everyone? It's a big job, but ya can probably enlist sprocket to assist!

Well now that we are that much closer to the festive season, maybe a few more folks know what their work commitments look like? For anyone who is interested, I'll be enjoying the service and renown hospitality of the NQAC on the afternoon of 14 AND 15 December, for at least a few hours.
There'll be a couple of other Pruners there, but always room for about a hundred more!

Thought I'd post a quick reminder so that anyone who's suddenly found themselves at a lose end for 14 or 15 December ... the North Queensland Aero Club in Cairns is the place to be. Anytime after about 1630 local!

The POP UP precursor was held at NQAC on the afternoon of Friday 14 December. In attendance was sprocket and this reporter. We should also have been graced by the presence of Compressor Stall but he had another more pressing commitment, which was most inconsiderate... 
What a loyal and dedicated bloke is our Stallie! Who else would have so cheerfully and willingly given away the annual Tower Party AND the POP UP precursor, PLUS all his usual Friday night hunting...? Well, sprocket and OzEx waved to him as he taxied past the NQAC, around 1730, bound for Townsville.
Maybe another time Stallie? Looks like the real POP UP will be a small affair too, so howzabout you suggest a date and time? We might get a few more takers closer to Xmas Eve ... I know sprocket will try to ensure he has a "leave pass" for whatever date ya cum up with.

I went via the NQAC at 6pm and it was all locked up,the lights were off and the bar stools sitting on top of the bar. Whats' happening?

Gravox... I got there around 5PM and discovered the same thing. I met a former commitee member while I was there and he told me the bar only opens on Fridays. Pity that nobody bothered to mention that rather vital piece of intel in advance. After all, this thread has been going for quite a while already.
I'll try to arrange another POP UP before Christmas, somewhere in town. Maybe at The Chapel, or Casa De Meze? If we're desperate enuf, could even try the Fox.
Shall work on it with a few other folks and, if something can be organised, will make a new thread for it.
