717s in CBR too?

As I posted on airliners.net, a few thoughts on 717 routes. Anyone care to comment?

Looking at the routes announced, there is not enough for 6 a/c. SYD-Prosperpine, Mackay and rocky won;t be more than one a day and these three could possibly be done by 1, max two aircraft. MEL-MCY plus the added capacity for HBA-OOL (which will only be on weekends) may be one added aircraft worth. SYD-TSV exists already so no extra capacity needed there.

Hence there are at least 3 "spare" 717s for other routes. Also how does ADL-OOL fit into the rotations if HBA-OOL is only weekends (I believe ADL-OOL may be daily). The plane needs to get to either ADL or OOL some other way.

My guess is, being 2-class aircraft, that 2 or 3 will be CBR based (after all a hangar is going up in CBR for the 717s and fresh lines for 717 have been marked on the tarmac) and will fly CBR-MEL/BNE/ADL and maybe some SYD flights. mainly they will replace the 2 Southern 146s which are currently based there. Then the CBR-ADL rotation can swing up to OOL before operating the return ADL-CBR flight.

Anyway just a few thoughts...

... as this thread appears to be the one still of interest ....

This news appears to answer the original questions.

Now one might ask whether the Impulse system will be able to continue pushing crews through the conversion process quickly enough to avoid recruitment ?

Vince & Jimbo,

Don't want rain on the parade but I'd have to say Speedbird's advice seems pretty sound to me. I'm well aware of the individuals you'd like get stuck into (you're not 'Robinson Crusoe' there, I can tell you). Please don't descend to their level, it's scary how similar you all sound. Leave them eat their humble pie in peace...

Finally some posts displaying some form of maturity, could not agree with you more. GREAT news for the Impulse guys Hope there is enough slots for everyone, if there is not,I hope some of the over the top enthusiasm displayed by Vince Brown and jimbo james (although it was provoked by a few juveniles)does not make it harder for your colleague that MAY be made redundant to find new jobs (by giving Impulse drivers a bad name). VB and jj sometimes it makes you look better if you do not lower your standards to match those of others (people will obtain their own impression of them)

-Thoughts go to the Nat Jet guys (if the 717s do replace the 146s)
-Southern guys should be ok, the dash 8s not that bad is it

Yeah, I suppose you're right guys, maybe I did get a little over the top, and I respect your critiscisms.

It was just a big slanging match during the waiting period, and I suppose when the truth came out it felt too good to let the "you-know-who's" get away without knowing it! I hate to see good people get called "worms".

Good luck to the Pulse guys, and I think we can all agree that this courtroom is adjourned!!!

Now, can anyone shed some light on DEFINATE routes they will serve, rego's, ferry flights, dates?????

Cheers

A calm Jimbo

Also part of the addition of six (6) extra 717 a/c is the parallel announcement by Geoff Dixon that QF are going to set up a 717 Base in Hobart. Details on the QF website via this link:

Six new aircraft over the next three months - that's only 13 weeks. Ten pilots per plane - that's sixty pilots needed. How many pilots are on the 1900? Will the next three months see the end of the 1900?

I think they have about 130 B1900 pilots, or did have before the movement started. I suppose the rest of the guys will be told to have a holiday and wait for a slot to come up on the jet.

Rumour has it the 1900's will be finished by mid year, strong rumours.

looks like B1900's are finished at the end of June. Many 1900 drivers are to be made redundant (about 40-50) until a slots come up on the B717 for them. (******!!!!!)

Also more talk of another 10 B717's in addition to the 6 coming.

QUOTE : Qantas News Article

BY : Geofry Thomas 10/04/2002

( Qantas In New Fares War )

To cut to the crunch of a threee page article here's what we want to hear.

" According to Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti , the extra capacity has become available because the airline has taken delivery of 5 156 seat B737-800's.

Another 10 are due but the 30th of July, together with six more 106 seat B717's.

A FURTHER 10 B717'S ARE EXPECTED TO BE ORDERED FOR DELIVERY AFTER JULY.

Qantas and Virgin both have agressive delivery schedules for new planes."

Cool 10 more B717's

Strong indications of a further 10 B717's to be ordered.

"News & Rumours" coming from all internal and external sources.

B1900 guys may have to take all their leave or take a well earned break for a couple of months but towards the end of the year things will pick up.

10 more jets would be great creating employment for alot more than just the Impulse guys.

Just remember ........"It's always darkest before the dawn"
