Post Is Singapore Airlines likely to start OZ service?

Just wondering what people think out there. Is there any likelihood that SQ will start up a domestic service in Australia.?

SQ would have to be prepared to lose a s**tload of money if they plan to set up an Australian domestic franchise. Sure, there is a lot of hostility out there towards QF but it is easier to retain a customer than gain a customer so QF are in the boxseat.. .. .It would be interesting to see if other Star carriers such as NZ, UA, and TG would contribute to the running costs of a SQ domestic operation given they are all losing currently because of no Australian domestic feed.

ttesna. .Thats why you do not run an airline. With all the SQ flights you listed, do you realise that flights come here with passengers on board that want to travel around Aus. Thats why SQ would want a domestic airline - feeders on and off.

DEAR FONT AND RAMPS,. .I BELEIVE SQ"S LOAD FACTOR IS NOW APROACHING 80 PERCENT. TOLD THE AUSTRALIAN LOAD FACTOR IN SUMMER. .WAS IN THE VACINITY OF 90 PERCENT.. .I DONT SEE SQ BURNING THEIR PROFIT ON AN AUSTRALIAN DOMESTIC START UP WHEN QF HAS A LARGE CHUNK OF IT AND VB HAS THE REST.. .SQ WILL USE THESE CARRIERS TO FILL THE GAP ANSETT. .LEFT.. .YOUR RIGHT I DONT RUN AN AIRLINE. .GOOD LUCK GUYS,DONT LET YOUR DG TOPPLE.

Cool

ttesna. .. .The penny will eventually drop - ONE of THESE days - that SQ are not interested in a domestic service in Oz. However, having said that - East West Loco & Buster Hyman have positions in my football team anytime for the positive thinking and undying loyalty they have had in Singapore Airlines being the saviour of Ansett.. .. .That is truly Keeping the faith:]

My money would be on SQ forming an alliance with Virgin Blue. They're already in with Sir Dickie on a far bigger scale.. .. .However, Branson now holds a very strong trump card by owning Australia's Number 2 major domestic airline. Like Ansett [RIP], VB will now be able to pick up offshore destinations (eg. Europe, the States, Fiji, Guam, Japan, etc) that SQ either have their maximum quota, or are unable to operate to.. .The question is, will SRB use Virgin aircraft - and I understand that they will start operating frequently into Oz vey soon - or will he $ell the rights to SQ to operate on VB's behalf?. .. .Either way, if Virgin Blue do go public and float, BUY!!. .. .And without blowing our own trumpet too much, I believe that Virgin Blue will prove the saviour AND main profit winner for Branson's Virgin group.. .. .Go Aussie, go!

I have been told, but cannot verify it, that United Airlines, and not Singapore or Air NZ, are planning to start a domestic operation in Australia, to fill this gap for Star Alliance, see separate thread.

Wink

Well, we all have opinions Whiskery, and there's no need to point out who's was wrong in this instance. However, although SQ didn't charge in as I thought they might have, the reasons that I believe they would, from their perspective, are still valid & may see them pumping equity into another carrier or an enhanced DJ.
