New Aviation forum for Australians??
Captain pprune has suggested it himself that we should start our own forum for Aus Aviation, so I am wondering who would be for it? The technical aspects are easy enough to do I'm just wondering how many people are out there who would frequent such a place.
What's your thoughts fellow pruners?

I would stay here. And if all the malcontents went somewhere else here would be better.
I used to think this moderating was BS too, but if you think back it really is done with great restraint.
Chuck.

It never ceases to amaze me how people who are not content with their lot on this BB, need to encourage others to join them in another life elsewhere.
I think it would be a great idea for some of the more Leftist Civil Libertarians to start an Aussie BB elsewhere in their own right, then have some of the more radical element join them, then maybe they could appreciate what is required to keep control of things, including that innate ability to keep the ever present legal profession out of their lives.

Top of the season to all and as someone else said somewhere else [quote]May your best day from last year, be your worst day in the New Year

Given the rapid changes in Australia's aviation scene, with more to come no doubt, and it's significantly greater size than that of NZ, and the obviously widening cultural/attitudinal gulf between NZ and Aust, along with the breakdown in practices of common courtesy, I think most of us in aviation in NZ would prefer to have our Australian cousins go their own way in respect of the "Dunnunda and Godzone" forum.
Moderate, Modest & Mild.
Why not use both, and have the best of BOTH worlds (in the same way the Kiwis enjoy telling us they're NOT Australians, even though they prefer to live on the Mainland!)?
No-one's being told they have to choose one or the other, are they?

I visit NZ often and happen to be very fond of the country, the people and their aviation scene, so I don't see what the problem is leaving D&G as it is. It's simply a matter of exercising decency and restraint. If you want a demonstration of how an unmoderated forum ultimately degenerates when these qualities are wanting, hop over to the aus.aviation newsgroup and see for yourself. I agree with you Chuck, moderation is a good thing - provided of course that it's done in moderation!

Why not just post under your own name & provide a contact? That will stop a lot of BS from some quarters & when you do say something stupid, the lawyers can contact you direct rather than bothering Danny & Co.

I'm with Chimbu,Zarg and Bypass on this.
Aus.aviation is a dead loss. Used to be great but was screwed over by a few anarchists a couple of years ago and their ideas have taken root amongst the great unwashed. There's precious little aviation over there now and what there is is buried in tiresome noise. Give it a miss - most of the real aviation participants who used to be there have long gone.
Sadly, what's happening here is exactly what happened there. As far as I'm concerned, whatever Woomera decides to do to stop the rot is ok. Those who don't like it ... leave.
(Edited to remove the usual typos.)

Thanks for the insight, I now realise i am a "malcontent leftist civil libertarian" who needs a wash and dislikes kiwi's. There I was thinking my curiosity makes the idea of an Aussie forum as well as pprune a good idea, thanks for clearing that up.
I agree with Buster Hyman, my contact details reveal my identity. Do yours?

All seems pretty straightforward to me; if you don't like it here for any reason at all, including the house rules, leave. If you want to set up a purely Australian forum, do it, don't hang around asking if we think it's a good idea.
As Ausatco says, try setting up an unmoderated forum and see how long it takes to degenerate into chaos.
Long live D&G, and long live Woomera.

I guess it depends on WHY we might want a separate forum. If it's just for the sake of slanging off at each other and our mates across the Tasman, and/or sling off at PPRuNe, and/or swear like a trooper, then maybe you ARE better off going elsewhere.
We might not always agree with the decisions made by PPRuNe moderators/admins (now, THERE is an understatement!), but we need to realise that, no matter whose BB we use, there will be rules to observe. Or anarchy to participate in.
Just how much freedom of speech do we reckon we need? If you think you need more than you get here, maybe you're better off elsewhere. The name of this place incorporates the word "Professional". Maybe there's a few people who are yet to realise the significance of this word.
Sure, I haven't always been happy with decisions that have been made here. I DO lament the loss of lame too. I'd have liked to have been here when Capt Snailtrails was doing his thing.
But, lets face it... we're isolated enough by time and distance from our professional colleagues all over the world. I wouldn't want to isolate us even further by going into a completely separate BB. I'm not even convinced that "having a bit each way" (our own forum AND PPRuNe) is anything more than fence sitting.
I'll stay here, thanks.

The sad thing is, OzExpat, that Dunnunda may go anyway. In which case, to find out whats happening here, you will need to go elsewhere.
I'm saddened to see the current situation at Dunnunda. As you say, we can contribute to forums for our colleagues from around the world and it makes bluddy interesting reading at times.
Aussies have always been an irreverant lot (Kiwis too), but I guess what we didn't realise was that some folks across the globe just don't get it, or us for that matter. We all know the vitriol we can throw across the Tasman, and we can do it with passion, but, at the end of the day, we are still the best of mates & wouldn't want to go into a fight without each other, as tradition & history shows.
As a Scouser, I'm especially disappointed by some attitudes. Understandably, I don't know 100% of both sides, but I'm leaning heavily one way at the moment, just waiting to see something that could or would balance the argument out....waiting....waiting...
