'89 12 Year Anniversary
Moderate, Modest & Mild.
Isn't it a nice change to see a topic with the dreaded "1989" mentioned, discussed without the usual vitriol! Maybe the therapy is working, or perhaps boredom has set in - either way "Thank God!".
{b]HIALS[/b] actually raised an important, but probably very little known (amongst current post 89 pilots) subject - that of the "pilot friend", where the AFAP ran a 2/3 day course for volunteers (from memory around 10-15 in each capital city), covering AIP's, ANO's, State and Federal legislation, and prior case histories, and combined this with "role playing" scenarios to combine psychological aspects. At the end of the course, the participants were then nominated as a "pilot friend", someone who would be able to give IMMEDIATE assistance to ANY pilot (AFAP member or not) who was unfortunate enough to find him/herself in a "non-normal" situation, eg, accident/incident.
