Singapore Airlines eyes Ansett

Singapore Airlines (SIA) may act as a consultant to revamp Ansett with the option of taking up equity in the troubled airline, administrator Mark Mentha said.
Mr Mentha said he had held talks with the Asian carrier's senior management in Singapore on Saturday to discuss the possibility of SIA's involvement in Ansett mark II.
A joint statement issued by the administrators and SIA said "the voluntary administrators were keen for SIA to play a significant role in Ansett Mark II".
"The chief executive and deputy chairman of SIA, Dr Cheong Choong Kong, said that while SIA was keen to explore the possibilities offered by this opportunity, there were many issues to resolve before any commitment could be made," the statement said.
