How do they get command time to allow upgrade later in there careers?

Command time in lighties in own time, a few, not necessarily QF cadets have lost their lives doing so.

A couple of courses had to do some private flying in their own time to make up the minimum command time. But this only equated to around 20 hours needing to be flown.
All current cadets do all their command time in their cadet course.
