Post Ansett Hijack

The plight of the Ansett employees has been hijacked by the ACTU and the Labor Party for cruel political ends. Even after Air New Zealand coughed up the money for the entitlements, we now see what appears to be AN employees delivering anti-liberal messages in key marginal electorates.

Whether there is a short gain is problematic after the Channel 9 viewer poll showed the overwhelming majority in favour of NOT supporting the failed airline with public funds. What it is more likely to do is to polarize the flying public and backfire in their faces. If I were Qantas management I would have a nice warm feeling about it all.

My company had previously given Ansett (and Star Alliance) first priority for all air travel, and would have continued this with MKII. Now it is politicised then I'm afraid all bets are off, and no doubt other small business operators will do much the same.

The ACTU seems to have hijacked the administrator as well, by forcing out PriceWaterhouse Coopers. The present administrator might well be accused of having their own conflict of interest. The patience of the creditors is probably at an end (you might just have heard of them - they are also owed a lot of money from Ansett). They may even have cause for their own action against the administrator if it can be demonstrated that their interests were relegated to second place in favor of the ACTU.

Ranger,

l think you will find there is a lot more to it than you realise.
For example PWC were in the throws of appointing a liquidator, and the ACTU did what they did to avoid that. A possible result of liquidation could have been that moneys owed to Air NZ were paid up first, then what ever is left give to the creditors.

The money Air NZ "coughed up" was only an agreed sum to sever financial ties with the administrated AN.

Viewer polls, well what can l say? But l agree that public money should not be used.
I'm not sure of the context of the poll question, however Sir Humphrey does come to mind.

This mess has politicized well before AN shut their doors.

My point is that under the current administrator, even though it is taking some time, they are at least trying to get a good offer for what is left and slowly get it trading again, so that when it does get back up to some form reasonable return, they can trade out of debt. A bit like chapter 11 in the staes l think. At least that way the creditors will get their money back.

As far as anti-liberal messages, can you blame them? You could hardly run an anti-labor campaign now could you?
