Two Ansett pilots suicide: report

From AAP
06oct01

TWO Ansett pilots have taken their own lives since the collapse of the nation's second largest airline, according to a report.

Both pilots were captains and one was already on stress leave from the airline when he committed suicide, the report says.

The other, a Sydney man and the father of two adult children, gassed himself in his car after Ansett's demise.

The Ansett Pilots Association has declined to comment on the deaths but a former Ansett employee said at least one death was connected to financial problems.

Many pilots who find themselves out of work are having to come to terms with lost entitlements and share portfolios worth up to $2 million each, the report said.

Unhappy

Well, sadly, that makes a total of 3 AN employees that have sadly lost their lives due to circumstances linked to AN's demise, that I know of. The 3rd being a CSO.

You cannot underestimate the impact of these events, and how much damage they can cause to the spirit of an individual. If there is anyone who is in a similar frame of mind, for God's sake, talk to someone. Don't think you are alone at this time. And be very careful how you interpet any mocking or disparaging posts on Pprune. I'm sure those that are posting such comments do not have a malicious intent.

Please talk to someone.

The Employee Assistance Program will continue to operate in the form of a telephone counselling service until further notice. This service is available for employees and their families on a 24 hour basis by calling 1300 361 008.

Its so sad, some things you die for to make ends meet, i guess some people will go to all lengths to get there and when they make it to the top and this happens, what else have you got to live for. Those who go thru all those apt and psch testing just to find out this. So why do airlines bother in the first place about it when you just ask then the simple question of " What would happen if the airline goes broke " Life is no crystal ball and no one can predict the future in ailine flying anymore, it could happen anywhere and no matter where its part of the world and its events.

Angry

I did not have the words to shoot down some of the individuals in the following post, maybe someone here can do better: http://www.airliners.net/discussions...d.main/598046/
Having the rug tugged out from under your feet can have varying effects, all of which I sympathise with.

I've just been there, read that, Bankstown, some of them defy belief. I have to say I was disappointed with the "QantasAirways" one, I would have expected better from them.

Kind regards,

TheNightOwl.
