fish Rumour! New A/C and Ops for NT Operator

• Rumour • Rumour • Rumour • Rumour • Rumour •. .OK, as the place for Rumours, I take no responsibility for the validation of my source. My role is just to spread it. So...

A colleague heard from a guy in Arnhem, who herd from a twin driver that a long established company in Arnhem called (of course I can't say) M••••••••• •••••••• ••••••••••, is planning the addition of several Beech 1900s to it's fleet. Why would they want them you ask... well the word is that "I can't say" has top secret preparations underway for the launch of an RPT run to Darwin.

Could this be true... could they be moving in on Darwin too.

• Rumour Update • Rumour Update • Rumour Update • Rumour Update •

Was speaking this morning with guy in Arnhem, who suggested otherwise. The Beech 1900's being not so many as suggested, and only a part of a "take over and expansion" of a run that's already established (rather than a starting a new one of there own). Who could they be taking over from now...???

I wonder if anyone their read the story of the boy who fed his goldfish to much...

I don't know, the first version of the rumour seems more plausible... well at least the RPT bit if not the 1900's bit... Maybe an RPT run & getting PC12s for the top end, but that's just my own speculation.

All we ask for is an even playingfield. The MAF has a cause and a reason - but why should they be competing against non funded entities. Not that I know the rules but I didn't think that they flew on Sundays??? Well thats changed.

Its not just MAF - theres other kinda funding...

call it a whinge call it jealousy, all I know is that I would love to have funding such as some. mmm now was that a PC12 or C208 that we will buy?

I think the old addage to apply here is, 'believe it when you're looking at it'

How many of their lads would have an ATPL?? A million hours on a VFR 206 won't get you any closer to one!!

Plus the capital layout. Where's that coming from??

Plus the infrastructure, hangers, equipment etc etc etc.

Plus all the CASA hoops they'd have to jump through. And that'll happen no matter what type they buy. (From what I've heard CASA approval for Single Turbine stuff is a nightmare)

Plus....Plus.....Plus...... . . .Somehow I find it a little hard to fatham!

Just to add to the confusion - rumour has it that they are short of cash in another operation in the NT.

Sorry for the hijack, hope it does't distract too much.

I can probably chuck 2 bits worth in... I don't know whether this is true or non but,...

pork chucker I assume you refer to the MAF operation from Alice. That would be the one that is currently operating both PC12's and C208s on RPT runs (including to Kalgoorlie). Which brings a part answer to Scud-runner as to whether they have the logistical ability & could get the approvals... They must, (if this is MAF) they're already doing it.

No idea on current economics of Alice operation, but as they are only contracted to manage that op on behalf of councils and do so independently of the other fields (Arnhem & PNG); their economics would be irrelevant to the North Oz Operation. As far as I'm aware the only MAF assets to shift between the fields are staff.

HA. .The operation I have worked for don't get any money from the Government, just as any other "non-funded entity" wouldn't. However, they have recieved from the governing councils capital injections to purchase aircraft/hangars etc. Is it such a bad thing that the Aboriginal councils have the money to invest which in return gives the owners (coucil members) an airservice which otehrwise would very lilkely be an unviable operation due to the distances and populations involved. Yes it may be maddening to some that it is, through the various channels tax-payer funded, but don't think that that is allways the case...some of the cash for a late edition was borrowed from a bank! And as far as operations go, not one red cent is given for the day to day operations eg engine changes/fuel/mx etc.

Scud. .Perhaps you don't work up there, but the current NA crowd do operate a S/E turbine on RPT. But as far as hangars and facilities, you are right there, they would need a bit of an upgrade.
