My bet is that any decision that was going to be made was going to be put off until after QF knew what AN was up to.

That will still be a week or three away from seeing how things evolve completly (Lang, VB etc) and then we may see a call either way.

The problem with this issue though is that the rumour goes around and around for years. Eventually it may come true but no one ever says 'no, it ain't happening' to shut down the rumours for a bit. But then again when QF says 'no, it ain't happening', then you could be less than a month away from the first aircraft hitting our shores!

My 2.2c worth.

Having spoken to Bevan Coote since the latest news, he said any additional 717's have not been approved by Qantas.. .Make of that what you like!!

Cool

From reliable source a day ago, Impulse part of Airconnex put proposal to QF board to operate another 7 717s on various routes. Board rejected proposal. No Changes for the forseeable future. 146S to stay until a suitable replacement is available. For those of you who are wondering, AIRCONNEX is the name of the organization made up of Impulse and Airlink, both of which have been merged under the management of B.C., both names being consigned to the annals of aviation history.

If that's right, why do flights operated by Impulse still show on the Qantas website as being operated by that company and not Airconnex? . .And what exactly does Airconnex do? Do they contract services from Impulse in the same way that Airlink contracts services from NJS?

I'm sorry to say it is true. However a week is a long time in aviation and I bet BC is keen to expand Airconnex and will be pushing for it. Hang in there troops. Next week could be a different story. Lets just hope they don't park the 1900's too soon.

Airconnex, not Airlink, are who NJS provide aircraft and crew to. The 146 replacement programme has been back in place since November and the 2 shortlisted types are the Fairchild Dornier 728/928 family and the Embraer 170/190 family, nicknamed the "Blitz Bomber" and "Jungle Jet" respectively. You can read what you like into this...

Gee how hard can it be to find a replacement for the 146.

And Baron I do doubt your integrity through not knowing the NJS, Airlink and Airconnex relationship.

IATA rules dictate that the subsidiary carrier's name must appear as it does on the AOC of that subsidiary. This is why the website shows - QANTASLINK-SUNSTATE AIRLINES or QANTASLINK-IMPULSE AIRLINES or even Qantas-AWAS( you will also notice this on your boarding pass when you fly QF ) Airconnex however is the new name referred to by QF staff when talking about Impulse as it is the new name for the subsidiary.

The Baron is correct,. .BC is the GM of Airconnex.. .Airconnex is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qantas.. .Airconnex has replaced Airlink as the Qantas company that contracts National Jet for operations in QLD and WA etc.. .Airconnex is in the process of replacing the Impulse name with its own, the name on the AOC may still be impulse but impulse as a company was owned by Airconnex.. .

I wish you girls would stop dreaming and pullup and have a good look at what is going on. The only guy who has spoke of any sense is The Baron and I completly agree with him. I don't think that the 717 is the right aircraft to replace the 146's. Maybe QF is holding off to see what the dornier 728 and EMB 170 have to offer and then replace the whole lot. Maybe once this happens B.C. may have ideas to combine the whole lot of the regionals under the on umbrella with only one management. Now wouldn't that be interesting!!!!!

Nothing sinister going on.. .. .Word is that Qantas are just holding back on a decision until the Ansett business is finalised.. .. .They will get the extra B717s eventually, and hopefully we will see them up here.

Just to clarify, decision made to reject 717 plan was made with QF contingency plans already in place to yet again shift stranded Ansett pax. It seems the info provided might be too difficult for some to understand. I'll say no more.

The 717 was rumoured to be heading for a hourly Cityflyer MEL-ADL service. Given QF will now have a marketshare of 85%+ for the next few years, you'd have to think that the 717 will now be too small for such routes and that more 738s might be the better bet.
