KD North West Tas restart. Quel Domage.
Kendell has restarted NW Tas ops today - carting Melbourne air to Tas and vice Versa - shocking loads - never breaking double figures when QFlink were predictably running close to chocka.
There needs to be some long term future put into the equation.
Psgrs are not even considering the AN option due to the recent problems.
There is one small chance for AN to survive. Switch the Global Reservations System - Merlin - back on to the world. That way advance bookings could be made - Agents could make bookings - even if USD$4.00 is paid for very segment created to Sabre - Galileo etc - and load the fares to carry this.
We Travel Agents WANT to help. It makes absolutely no nevermind to my office that we are not booking Ansett in the financial sense. We are selling bucketloads of QF and at high yield fares with full overides to come later - BUT - we want to help AN get back on their feet. AN are not needed - but wanted as many of the employees are our very good friends. Kendell have only ever selectively paid overide commission - but nobody I know cares about that.
For non airline types - overide commission is an extra commission payment of up to 4.5% that is paid after the revenue is flown.
If someone at the remnants of AN reads this - please - grow a brain and look beyond the next few months.

Dear EWL, Can only agree with you re: KD's chances any more than VERY short term. It's a bit like going into a fist fight with one arm, and maybe a leg tied behind your back ........
Of course props are only being turned to help convince any buyers that the airline is "operational", but talking to a local travel agent that used to write a lot of KD/AN business, and is still willing to hand-write tickets (no commission) to kick KD's along in our centre, The frustration amongst them is palpable. For example, Explain to my 70 y.o. neighbours that they have to be in a phone queue or even come to my place to use the internet to book a ticket - or go to a travel agent and book QANTAS(LINK)- I can't !
If you are keeping track of sales in Nth Tas., please keep us informed. Have done the run across the drain a few times for the blue tail and would like to think two airlines could still operate profitably.

Duckie - It is a very sad set of affairs. No network - nobody you can talk to locally - not advance bookings beyond 3 months. I realise only too well that they are trying to rebuild - but where in the hell are the Airline people. Those that bleed Jet-A1. This is pureley an accountant bred recovery - and is doomed to failure.
Come on dudes- Ansett deserves far better than the current obviously flaccid attempt.
Get real here and put something viable together.
The Travel Agents of Australia will be right behind you. Do you want it to fail??
Show your hand.

Holding - it needs to be very quick mate or the point is moot.
Even a return to the old fare structure with 5 - 10% put on fares would help.
Where there is no certainty and no long term future - those who were burned before may well be burned again and they know it all too well. Shying away in droves.
It was however nice to see the SF340 cruise past my office window today on finals.
Its broke administrators of the airline formerly known as AN - lets fix it. Together.

Sorry EWL, Whilst I remember the white T with blue tail, wasn't flying then. I'm talking a little more recently. Looks like things have happened very quickly in the last 24hrs.
Regionals need travel agents, and I understand it is a hot topic being discussed at present.

Okay Duckie - Understood.
As I have said - it makes no nevermind to my business right now - but i want to help my mates and cant.
It would take a minute to relink Merlin to the GD systems and get the bookings flowing.
What on earth are Andersen thinking - or are they.

Who'd be a returning KD pilot? F/O on Year 1 F/O's salary, and Captain on Year 5 Captain's salary. Neither with DTA nor any other allowance. Quite a come down from a month ago, let's hope it improves somewhat.
Kind regards,
TheNightOwl.

TheNightOwl - Who would be a returning FO with year 1 salary? I would be, the majority of FO's have only been in less than 1 year, so i think most will return, if they have nothing better to go to... As for the Captains, better than no job at all, i think most will return, not many have left so far in Adelaide, most that arn't back are hanging out for the best.

Give me a start date and I'll be back.
KD was and will be a great airline again. We have to start somewhere so if its Year 1 pay then I'm there with my support.
Besides beats what I'm doing now - Nothing with no pay !

EWL, administrators aware of the problem and have undertaken to find a fix quickly. What that is I don't know, but I heard the main man himself say it in conference. He is aware that the travel agents are important if this is to work. Hope he fixes it soon, I want to go back flying. On a positive, forward bookings are looking more positive for KD now.

That is damned good news. We need them back in the air yesterday. My business is OK but many are not sad to say - not to mention our AN mates who are trying to cover mortgages and feed families.
Please God - dont let the same senior management team anywhere near the rebirth.
It would be the end of the world as we know it once and for all.
What we need here is swift action so 50 or 60,000 professionals can leap to their aid - and a certain future.
Go White Winged Wonder!!!!!!!!!
