Post Air Pacific To Operate NZ Domestic For QF

FJ Will be operating NZ domestics flights on behalf of Qantas by the end of the week.
Air Canada will be operating trans Tasman also, so this releases the 737's for use in the homeland.
After all, we couldn't have a foreign carrier operating for QF in OZ whilst AN crews sit back.
Wouldn't look good......

But wait. There's more. Rumors abound.
3 wet leased 737s in NZ domestic ops until QF pilots can take up the flying.
QF purchasing 12 737-800s starting deliveries Jan 02. Maybe 60 new 737 commands and 120 F/O positions.
The NZ flying should be taken back by QF when aircraft and crews are available.

B767 crews to be employed on short term contacts until QF pilots can be trained. Watch the papers for the ads.
And a free set of steak knives for all.
But wait. Theres more........

Hey Edster, good call. Ad in todays Australian for 767 drivers for a 'major Australian Airline' for up to three months I think (haven't read the ad first hand!)

Interesting times!

Would seem that AC is in real trouble, as now are many airlines around the world.

There were 2 ads in the Australian for B767 Crew. One was from Ansett Worldwide Aviation. Do you suppose Qantas are using them?

What a wonderful opportunity for Australian pilots. I wonder if they'll be concerned about taking Kiwi flying jobs...???

Red after April QF had an excess of 737s with pilots and so sent them to NZ to replace the failed venture.
Now they don't have enough 737s and crews so they will be back over here.
If rumour is correct and QF orders 12 more 737s, then when the dust settles I would not be surprised to see QF 737s back in NZ with local crews!

Which takes me back to...
What a wonderful opportunity...
I wonder if...

If that is the case I'll be the first to stand on the tarmac cheering, but until then because, if Qantas has a surplus of pilots, as is increasingly likely, will it hire Kiwis and make Oz pilots redundant or...?

Red the last thing that QF has at present is a surplus of pilots. Indeed if they get these extra 12 aircraft, the crewing situation will become a lot tighter and they will need even more crews.
The 737s they have had in NZ were just a temporary measure. I still say that when the dust settles they will probably have their own 737s back there with local crews.

Mmm .. we'll see, but if they are short then they'll be virtually unique amongst the world's airlines in that case.

Red at this stage QF is still interviewing and employing pilots, they had adverts via a third party for short term contract pilots in Friday's Australian.

e767 thanks for that and best of luck for the interviewees. As I said before, if what you foreshadow proves true I'll be out on the tarmac cheering them on, I just hope the interviewees aren't in the RH seat, it won't look good.
