QF & VB to wet lease AN Aircraft
QF and VB to wet lease AN aircraft from the Administrator for 3 weeks.
Will QF and VB vet the Heroes out or will they get what the Administrator gives them?
If so and VB and QF keep the aircraft and staff after 3 weeks, they will both have Heroes on their books.
Interesting.

Qf already have 'heroes' (and for avoidance of doubt, I'm using HIS word, not mine) on the books.
Is there a point? It has been 'interesting' for the last ten years.
The 'interesting' part comes if/when QF managment decides to keep the A320s on and we have to work out some sort of integration deal!!

Niles Crane,
Your view of history may be limited to recent events. In Australia alone there have been many integrations. Australian National Airways and Ansett in the fifties,Butler Air Transport, Guinea Airways, Queensland Airlines, Ansett subsidiaries, Mandated Airlines, MMA etc.BCPA and Qantas but QF may be different now.
Hate to disillusion you but not all to the bottom. Same in USA.

Yeah I agree but that doesn't solve the issue Niles.
Whilst any integration with AN drivers should/would see them on the bottom of the QF seniorority pile, there is the issue of pay, conditions, union coverage, the fact that it is QF promotions that are being missed out on etc.
Now I'm standing by for the anti QF longhaul briagede to arrive over the hill and tell me that now i know how it felt when AA got taken over by QF in the early '90s and the 767 started taking promotions away from the shorthaulers of that time.
Whilst I see their point (and always have), this one has far bigger ramifications for all QF drivers (including reaching down into the regionals if the A320 style leases spread to that arena too).
I can't wait to tell my kids about this time in aviation in the future. I just hope that I'm still around in Australia to talk to them!

Keg,
I don't want to burst your bubble but if QF elect to keep the Airbus I reckon based on past experience another QF subsidiary would be setup to manage that operation.
This will allow them to cap wages at a level suitable to them.It will provide the opportunity for QF to setup another low cost carrier to compete with VB and any other new players.
Trying to integrate more pilots into the QF system would be unlikely.
I wish the best of luck though!

Never be too certain about anything in aviation. The TAA/Australian pilots had a lot of suggestions for AN pilots on integration over the years. Little did they expect to be integrated into QF.
Would be interesting to see a BA/QF integration in the future and see what attitudes prevail then. Not improbable.

The only plan is for QF to wet lease A320's from Ansett, therefore nothing much changes, the Pilots would work for AN under the existing award and under AN's AOC.
There really isn't any other way to do it, it would take significantly longer to get the required regulatory approval to operate them directly under QF, or via a new third-party company.
The major problem is that further down the track the A320 drivers could go through this nightmare all over again as QF returns the A320's from wet lease!!!!!
This whole disaster is not something that anybody in QF is happy about, and the fact that some smart arses are trying to create havoc by suggesting such things as AN drivers flying QF's A330's sickens me, this is not the time to try some cheap point scoring.
No matter what happens, I wish that ALL AN guys could keep their jobs, and I wish that this in turn would not affect ANY QF guys promotion. BUT..... the truth is, unfortunately, somewhere in between, and so be it....
PS: Tony, it may be someone else’s word, but you still insist on using it! You are starting to become quite famous in Short Haul, and not in a popular sort of way!

Hey Keg,
Just to let you know that I'm in short haul and none of my fellow aviators have a problem with the word "Hero" . But then I'M not in QF , does that make a difference????
