Post Air Pacific Fiji - Syd flight

Just read a little (and i mean little) notice in our local rag today about an Air Pacific flight that struck severe turbulance enroute to Sydney. Apparently a couple of crew and passengers were injured - not too seriously i hope.

Any more info on this one out there??

jonno,

Yes, they still have 1 leased Classic -200 off Qantas... Don't know who owns their 767s and 737s though!

Thanks talo.

Jonno - I've flown with Air Pacific on a number of occassions and on EACH and EVERY time have found the service, standard of meals etc to be of better standard than those we often put up with in Australia from our main flag carrier.

As for their aircraft I belive the 747 is still being leased from QF (who have a large % share in the airline). As for their other aircraft I believe they lease them from another company but it has the same owners as Air Pacific <img src="confused.gif" border="0"> this has been done for tax reasons or something like that. I think the 767 and 737's do the Aussie runs and the 747 does the runs to US and will shortly be starting again to Japan...not too sure but its my best go at the grape vine!

moce

I was so impressed with Air Pacific that I married one of their Flight Attendants.

Good call Fris - and I bet she is a lovely lady too. Please say bula from me.

I have found the service on FJ pleasant- somewhat confused - but very endearing - the Fijiians are a lovely race of people and wonderful to be on an aeroplane with. A wonderfil experience.

I am very sorry to hear that CAT bit some crew and passengers and hope that they are OK.

Fondest memory is on a NANSYD sector -with the skipper (5th turnine was on his head) saying a prayer to bless the Fiji Rugby sevens that was on its way to HKG for the HKG Sevens.

It was all we could do to restrain our tail gunner mate from trying to gang rape them single handedly.

I would fly FJ any day - but still would not even taxi with other airlines.

Give me 2 Alpha - an icy cold Fijibaby in my paw and I am home!!

Oh - and the 762 FJ was operating years ago was an RG aeroplane - still had the RG safety videos and life jackets. Maybe more sourced from there.

Best all

Correct on both counts. She is lovely and she is a lady. She comes from the era of the BAC111 and B737-200 when they were not too proud to be called hosties.

FJs 762 was indeed ex Varig. They got it from Air NZ with whom it was ZK-NBD. At the time it was the only 767 in the NZ fleet without the large door in the forward hold. More than a few cargo pallets never got to travel on that aeroplane! We used to remember it as No Big Door.

Cheers

Yup, I flew the 747's for them for two years, and they're a great bunch.. .The 747, as was mentioned above is a QF leased plane. We had two, but after the coup in May 2000 they sent one back. I think that in the next year or so they'll be going to QF leased -400's though.

18wheeler, my first instructor (who is a Fijian national, but was working at BK in the mid/late 90's) went to fly the 737 with them a while ago now. Would you mind if I sent you an email if you were there at (or around) the same time? I wouldn't mind catching-up with him as I have lost his contact details.

429 CJ, yep, email me if you like, though I don't know a lot of the 737 drivers, and it was a while ago, too.

They also had a shiney 738 (I think - it had those blended winglets) doing the QF NZ domestic stuff recently - very nice bit of kit.

Regrettably the worst food (and service) I have ever had was on a QF 734 from SYD to PER, sate behind Adam Gilchrist, who supped about 3 bottles of Champagne (gratis from the adoring hosties) and didn't even pass it around. We got cold sarnies and cold coffee - grrrr...

18 wheeler, please stand by on that one! The 'someone' I was referring to may have emailed me already (I'm waiting to hear back from him).

Will advise further development.

Poor Kava passed away back in 2001 , Heart attack at a BBQ with his friends and family - sadly miseed by many of the "Airpac Gang".

I have an FOI friend in CAAFI in Fiji who's kean to put together a Fiji Flyers Club and organise an anual bash down at the Sheritan Denearu. If any one else thinks this is a good idea please put a post in with the "thumbs up" and mabey we'll try get the wheels in motion.

Things I miss about Fiji

1. That gods necter FIJI BITTER. .2. Summer all year round. .3. Friendly girls that display hospitality in many ways........

4. Late nights when 95% of the pilots are all out till the wee hours of the morning......

5. A good tasty Inidan curry. .6. Taxi's that cost ****** all. .7. Night clubs that don't kick you out if you fall over a few times or spill your beer...... .8. Lovo food and the Fiji Sevens games

Hope this conjurs up memories !!

Vinaka MOCE!! ......... VINCE!!
