Post Westpac Global Rewards Now Go With Qantas, Instead Of Ansett.

Global Rewards update

Westpac is pleased to announce its association with Qantas to offer Qantas Frequent Flyer points as part of its new credit card rewards program.

Features of the new program include:

Domestic and International flight and travel rewards, retail rewards and more; including redemption for Qantas Frequent Flyer points.

One reward point for every dollar you spend on your card, with bonus points available from a range of new bonus partners.

From 5 November to 31 December 2001, Westpac will offer 1.5 points for every dollar spent under the new program.
No points expiry. You will earn Westpac points that never expire and will always be secure as long as you are a card holder in our new program.

Westpac assures you that:

All the points you've earned since 14 September 2001 will be redeemable under the new program.
The interest rate on your card has been reduced by 2% to 14.9% p.a. until further details of the new program are announced.

If your annual fee is due in the next couple of months, it won't be charged until further details of the new program are announced.

Your Global Rewards Westpac Visa card will still be accepted in the normal way for purchases, accessing cash and making payments.

With even more ways to earn points, and more rewards to choose from, we're confident that you will be more satisfied with the new program. Full details will be announced shortly.

Question

Good and bad - what happens to the points earned prior to September 14?

This now means that Westpac AND its competitor, the Commonwealth Bank BOTH award points for redemption with QANTAS.
No wonder they need to increase their fleet size!

Kaptin M,

Welcome back......

I did not post that part of the Westpac Press Release, will add it now for you.

Maybe that is why Qantas are looking at the A380 because ANZ Bank also definitely have a similar card, and I believe others have swapped too, including Diners Club........

Additionally, if you have purchased tickets on any Westpac or Challenge Bank credit card or Bank of Melbourne Visa Debit card, which you can't use for any of Ansett Australia's airlines, you can apply for a refund to your credit or debit account, under the normal provisions, by completing the Disputed Transaction Form (further instructions available). We will contact you within 14 days of receiving the completed form.
We understand that there is no guarantee the Ansett Global Rewards points you have earned so far, any redemption bookings you've made, or redemption tickets you hold will be honoured by Ansett Australia or its program partners, including Star Alliance. However, we will continue to discuss the issue of outstanding Global Rewards points with the Ansett administrator.

We appreciate that you may have concerns about the current situation, but rest assured that we are doing all we can to protect your interests.

If you have any questions about the Ansett Global Rewards program, or about your Global Rewards points, please contact Ansett on 13 13 00.
If you have any questions about your credit card, please email us, visit your nearest Westpac, Challenge Bank or Bank of Melbourne branch, or alternatively call 1300 651 089.

Now it is even more confusing..

Westpac have announced that they have also done a deal with Air NZ and Star Alliance (see following). However still nothing with Ansett, and all the points anyone had with Global Rewards, prior to the original Ansett ceasing operations, cannot be used even if they were earned on Star Alliance carriers like Air NZ or United....
