Question "STRUTH"

Why don't we just give it all a big miss, get out of flying for a while, set up a business of some sort, make a sheitload of bucks, come back, take what is rightfully ours, (our industry), and get on with what we do best.. .Who knows, we might just find out who's got nuts.. .About time, Maybe?. .I'm off into the jungle of retail/wholesale.

You must be joking, Struth. Go into business? Struth. I have had three retail businesses. In the last one I worked from 6am to midnight, 7 days a week. Was it financially worth it? Only when I sold it. Being a pilot (as long as you have a job) is a very soft option. Stick with that. Even in GA the money and lifestyle is better than running your own business.

Hey Struth, I did... have two jobs in one. . .. .Paramedic - low flying in white V8 first aid kit with red lights. .. .and . .. .Emergency medical dispatcher - air traffic control for ambulances and 000 call taker (up here one dispatcher does both jobs). .. .advantages over GA (generally speaking) - . .. .Make heaps more money and fly for fun in an aeroplane I think is safe and I like. .. .The company pays for training. .. .If you damage something it doesnt come out of your wages, not even the insurance excess. .. .I get pleanty of appreciation and not only from the clients. .. .My workmates dont stab each other just to get that twin job or a better ambulance. (one is paid on qualifications and there is no limit to how many highly qualified paramedics there are within the company). A good gossip session has never been passed up on though. The difference being the person is usually there to either take a slap on the back or defend themselves.. .. .Rumour is treated with suspicion until proven. .. .I have become involved in a company which pays its high level paramedics to travel heaps and stay at some really great places around Aus and the world on all expenses paid contracts. (this usually involves 5 weeks on five off plus holidays, so effectively they are working 4 months of the year and getting paid obsene amounts of money to do so). .. .I have to time to visit places I want to go when I want to go.. .. .I get 10 weeks with loading holiday pay and get paid proper overtime and shift allowances. .. .Pleanty of people to meet - and time to socialise with them. .. .The summation being I love my flying, and intend to persue it, I have had a great time in GA and meet some top people with whom I have some long lasting friendships with. I learned also flying is not the be all and end all to give your life up for.

"Even in GA the money and lifestyle is better than running your own business". .. .So what did I do wrong?. .. .Not only involved in GA but running a GA company?. .. .Never a dull moment...

Well done NC, I'm always glad to hear of people discovering there is life outside and on the fringes of aviation. . . I believe it gives perspective!

Goodonya NC: Spot on.. .Airag, perspective is exactly right. Maybe reality check is equally appropriate.. .There is life outside the fishbowl and some of us will have a ball. This probably applies more to those of us that have had a good feed at the trough though.

After 3 days or so, I reckon Macadamias, Paramedics and cars are the way of the future.. .Or maybe it's just a matter of having a laugh.. .Just at the moment, when I think of aeroplanes,I sit down untill the feeling goes away.. .So far it's working.

Whatever you do, don't try cars. Did it for too long and the industry is even worse than this one...... . .. .Must never look back, never....
