Pathetic all of you.. .. .Not one of you self serving elitests has mentioned providing a service to the paying passenger. I remember the 'good ol days', trying to get a flight from Coolangatta, only to see both carriers taxying out together. And then having to pay 2 weeks wages for a ticket.. .. .In a country the size of Australia, flying is not a priviledge but a real necessity.. .. .Just who do you tossers think you are? It sounds to me as though most of you worked for these carriers all the way thru the 'demise' as you call it. Will you share the blame.....I think not.

Eeeerm Brian me lad.. .. .Please point your angst at the Governments of the day who mandated, in law, the two airline policy and who were the owners of one of the them.. .. .You may also ask the question as to why a recently deceased airline which was operating in this highly protected environment and making hay like there was no tomorrow, is no longer with us.. .. .Perhaps they had no conception of the fact that there is always a tomorrow.. .. .The above question is purely rhetorical and does not require or seek an answer.. .. .Please, just leave us to our musings and reminiscences of an era past.

Travelled OS twice last year ex-BN;. .. .Paid big bucks for QF tickets as I chose to fly QF - what did I get..... .. .1. 'JAL' & 2. 'Canadian' aircraft & crew.. .. .Both were marginally competent but not a patch on the service I thought I was paying for.. .. .Sometimes you don't get what you pay for.

Ah!... yes, Gaunty...the musings of those that miss " the good days " the days when first class travel was just that!. .. .Had an occasion to fly out of Sydney recently on a code share flight with Qantas, travelled business class [ no first class alas! ]. .. .Mid morning departure , a leisurely sleep in folowed by b/fast and off to the a/port.. .. .An hour after departure the sweet young things served lunch...bit early I thought but what the heck!. .. .An hour later, after all had been cleared away, I noticed a dimming in the ambient light within the cabin. Looking around I noticed that ,surrepticiously ,all the window shades within our section of the cabin had been lowered...with the exception of mine! [ window seat , last row ]. .. .Hmmm! I thought...this will be interesting...sure enough a few minutes later the sweet young thing approached me and reached across to lower the shades [ two of ]. This was a brand new triple seven you see and B/C is not bad at all in those things!. .. .Excuse me, I said, I'm reading the paper [ The Australian...good to catch up with the local news when one is back in town! ] So off she trotted to the rabbit warren , behind the curtains, up where the important people reside!. .. .Well, after about 20mins the sweet young thing came back , knelt down in front of me and said that the shades must come down! Why, I said, It's 1130am, the sun is shining and I'm reading the paper. People wish to sleep she said...and I said who?...at the same time standing up and casting my eyes over my fellow B/C travellers. Most were squinting trying to read by the o/head lights, others were watching movies and one or two, of a certain culture that has a propensity for sleeping any time they are stationary, were actually nodding off! . .. .I'm sorry sir she said, I insist!. .. .Well, I looked her in the eye and in my most severe tone said " NO ". .. .Well, you would have thought I had whacked her with a dead fish! She stormed off to the rabbit warren and I thought.. Oh! Oh!...have I gone too far! After all ,since Sept 11, is refusing to lower the window shade considered akin to terrorist activity?. .. .Any way, after about an hour I thought perhaps I had overstepped the mark and lowered the shades. As quick as a flash the sweet young thing came out of the rabbit warren and said to me...no, no no, leave the shades up!. .. .Do you want the bl**dy shades up or down I said! [ I didn't actually swear at the sweet young thing....as I normally do at the sour old things that we have to put up with in Qantas and the now defunct Ansett! ] . .. .Please sir , she said, you have the shades as you wish..." I didn't realize who you are! ". .. .Well, I'm not quite sure what she meant by that and I didn't ask the sweet young thing, I just read the paper and, in between, thought about the good old days!

Thumbs up

Guys and Gals,. .If you want to experience the "good old days" again in 1st or Business, let me recommend EK to you. Travel Westabout and you will not regret it, and furthermore, you will (almost) not be supporting a foreign operator..... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="rolleyes.gif" /> . .Gru
