Will Virgin Blue reward those pilots who have been loyal
Will those responsible for recruiting at Virgin Blue reward those pilots who have had faith in the airline over the last 12-16 months and give them an interview first. What I'm saying is will they(VB)look at the date pilots first applied to Virgin Blue via staffcv and so "ok these guys applied 6 months ago, they must really want to work for us, they haven't just applied beacause we(VB) are now Australia's second major airline." . .I believe those pilots who applied before Ansett MK 2 (Tesna) collapsed should be interviewed first, they had faith that Virgin Blue would not collapse and would continue to grow.. .Before Ansett MK 2 collapsed there were many pilots who were flying for Ansett, it's regionals and the Qantas regionals who doubted Virgin Blue would survive the next 6-12 months. Many of these pilots were behind those rumours about Virgin paying cash for fuel, many were the first to knock Virgin for making it's pilots pay for their B737 training. But now, 2 weeks after Tesna said it would not purchase Ansett these pilots have realised that Virgin Blue is here to stay and now want to get in on the action. Here's an example, a friend has just be offered a job with Virgin Blue. He currently flies for a large regional airline. Before Tesna said "no" many pilots at this regional doubted Virgin Blue would be here in 6 months and would say "no way I would spend $25000,could be out of a job in 6 months". But now these pilots are asking my friend on how to get a job with Virgin Blue. Apparently when he tells them to apply via pilotstaffcv they ask "who/what is pilotstaffcv". Just shows how much they really know about Virgin Blue, they (VB) have been using that system for almost 12 months.. . . . [ 12 March 2002, 06:50: Message edited by: whogivesa???? ]
The old case of supply and demand, same way as probably a few hundred guys from GA have been on the QF hold file while AN guys have got in over them, most of these AN guys never would have applied to QF either beforehand. From DJs point of view it makes sense to employ the AN guys when most of the F/Os have at least 10,000hrs under their belt, same reason as a lot have ended up in QF.
Short answer NO, they could not give a stuff.Like all Airlines that is not how it works; should, but NO. Most of the guys that do the hiring have no idea what loyalty is.

Whogivesa, whogivesa? Pilots are not loyal unless they are actual employees. But even then..... .. .People apply for jobs as and when they see fit. You wrote "us" in your post, therefore I assume that you are already employed by DJ.. .. .Therefore your thread is irrelevant.. .. .Loyalty is in the eye of the beer holder.. .. .As far as the QF regionals (and it's pilots) are concerned, the prospect of working for DJ is more of a career progression issue, rather than "wanting to work for the 2nd airline". Some people want to fly more than Dash-8's, and that's fine. But don't be to quick to criticize them for "wanting to see DJ fail". Most of the people I fly with wished DJ all the best and continue to do so.. .. .Let's face it. The way things are at the moment, working for a QF regional is one of the fewer 'secure' jobs around....... . . . [ 12 March 2002, 08:55: Message edited by: Hugh Jarse ]
