Red face Qantas billed for Rottnest landing

Whats the go?

Pilots using false callsigns, ended up getting Qantas billed for a landing at RTI.

I heared one bloke with a pommie accent call into the RTI MBZ saying "Alpha Bravo Charlie, Airbus 340...." i mean come on fellas, bit of professionalism doesnt go astray...

Unfortunately, it goes on all the time.
Flying charter over there I have heard:
false callsigns,
no callsigns,
no radio at all

Some fools have even come back saying "Oh I don't need to pay the landing fee as I didn't transmit my callsign". Or worse still, the pilots don't tell you they flew there in the first place.

Main offenders though appear to be the out of town owners trying to save a buck.

No wonder we have to spend hours each month checking the AVDATA/ASA accounts against the aircraft flight logs. To their credit though, if you dispute a transaction and provide reasonable documentary evidence then the charge is normally credited back to your account.

Maybe you can squeeze a 747 into Category B for the NDB approach?

Red face

Once went to RTI and heard a competitor's aircraft using a certain false callsign, it took the idiot flying it a while to realise that the real "XXX" (me) was just behind him in the circuit! He got a bit defensive on the ground when I called him a fraud, and alleged it was the policy of the operator he hired from. But get this, the same operator was still charging these hirers for an RTI landing!

Reminds me of a Mustang story at Dubbo (70's), Calls up "Dubbo ABC Mustang 30 miles north inbound" etc etc lands and is fuelling when "Dubbo ABC Cessna 30 miles south inbound" followed by a very fast TO.

Told to me by FIS Dubbo in '75, allegedly one of the 3 stolen from Tocumwal in the 50's.
