Will The AFAP Be Free To Represent Ansett #2 Pilots
With the demise of Ansett as we know it, I wonder if any new version of Ansett will be able to let its pilots be represented by the AFAP if they so desire.
I think that this would be one of the few favourable things to come out of this devastating collapse.
Of course there are currently pilots in Ansett who would not wish to join the AFAP (as is their undisputed right), however there are undoubtedly those who would like to have the AFAP once again become their representatives in industrial matters.
Virgin pilots are represented by the AFAP, and if the new Ansett has the same situation, then once again the AFAP could represent the major domestic carriers in Australia.
Those union bashers out there need not reply if they cannot contain their comments to rational and objective, intelligent debate regarding this issue.

After the Pilot's dispute, the federation was held liable by the courts for an amount of around $8 million, to be paid in damages to Ansett and Australian (Qantas).
One of the conditions that this was not pursued by the abovementioned Airlines was on the understanding that the Federation did not seek to represent the Pilots of these companies.
The Pilots that returned to work during the dispute would probably not have been interested in re-joining the Feds in any case.
In fact, I'm not sure they would have been acceptable to the Federation due to the fact they returned to work during the dispute.
In any case they did not have much choice.
This is a very brief and simplified explanation, and does not seek to delve any more deeply into the issues that we have all read so much about in past posts.
