ATPL NAVIGATION EXAM
G'Day all PPRUNERS.
Did anyone sit the last Navigation exam for the ATPL Theory a couple of months ago. I sit it on Tuesday and been using the Rob Avery self study which has been excellent.
I would like to know the setup for the exam in terms of how many ETP'S PNR'S and LPSD'S I could find in the exam and wether people have been finding 90 minutes long enough to fininsh the exam.

I sat the exam in June, and from memory, there was only one PNR/LPSD question. There was also quite a few questions regarding Navigation Aids, as well as some regarding Inbound track/point closest to the pole.
I found that 90 minutes WAS enough time, and also that it is a LOT easier to do the exam if you actually take your maps with you (I forgot mine!)
I used the Nathan Higgins notes and found them quite good. I also believe that the CASA documents are easier to use in the exam than Jepps...but Jepps are easier to use in the aircraft.
Good luck with it.

From memory when I did it there was 1 CP/ETP (2 Marks), and 2 PNR/PSDs (3 Marks). There were also 2 theory questions about CPs and PNRs, along with all the other stuff. 90 minutes was fine!
Apache, don't they provide you with maps anymore?

No, you don't. I've had to purchase over $50 worth of charts etc. that will be out of date in Nov, most of which I won't use in the exam anyway. I'm rather annoyed.
Best of luck DWR. We'll need it.

DWR,
The last nav exam had only 1 PSD, no PNR or ETP questions. It also contained a few questions on convergence factors and the like,as well as the usual nav aid (ie minimum distance a DME will read when passing over the station at FL200).I think there was also an IREX style question on which navaids could provide you with a position fix, given 4 options at a particular place.
Thats about all I can recall, memory is becoming a bit too clogged with the new found joys of AGK
Best of luck with it all.
