Based at Oenpelli, have 2 x C206 and 1 x C310. Do an awful lot of 10 min sectors to Jabiru, especially this time of year when road access to Oenpelli gets cut off.

All operators are supposed to pay at least the GA Award as that is the legal minimum in the NT. It has given a lot of people a start in the aviation industry over the years. Beyond that I can't help you.

Oenpelli beautiful one day hopefully!

Its a start with the C310 as a carrot.

Enjoy taking the Magella Star arrival into Jabiru, taking the brothers to the big smoke over at the Jabiru Sports and Social Club.

A lot of guys have gone through there and come out the other side sort of OK. beware the owners, they run the town, dont trust them as far as you can throw them, however, keep your nose clean and you should get on a twin reasonably quickly. The accommodation sucked when I was there but that was a long time ago (cant see it changing though). Longest sector in the wet is 69nm, unless you get a DN flight but thats normally reserved for the CP. Seniority gets you the night in DN.

Good luck with it.

Luffwaffer Charter

Gunair at last count had a C310 @ 5 C206,s
Don,t beleive or even think you,ll be flying the twin.CP has his privilledges and won,t relent untill qantas calls.
On the whole though a good experience with alot of remote clinic runs, food runs, @ teacher drop offs.Hot and heavy off small strips, with amazing scenary.Good allround real flying.
This time of year it,s hot @ sticky.
2 times a week all supplies are relient on the 206,s for the community,s survival as east alligator floods.
So Oenpelli - Jabiru runs up to 10 times a day.
Pay is hourly, so the more you work the better.
Not great pay but survivable.
Everythings a ripoff either at the community store or the Servo.
Pilot office is a spacious unimpressive donga with holes in the floor.
Accomodation is pathetic.
But better than most in Oenpelli.!!You,ll also have to get approval from NT lands council to work in Arnheimland @ a licience to drink (important) from the council.Great fishing, @ a good experience.
Just don,t believe everything your told.
Watch the asian influence.

Owners

Yeah, it's really the starting point in aviation that place.

Can someone remind me of the name of that intensely arrogant bloke/family who runs that business and seems own most of Oenpelli?

Siebert, or something similar, is it?

520.

Inside info

Continental 520 - The company is family owned but Lother Siebert is the character of all characters.Wouldn,t call him arrogant.Perhaps head strong. But a millionaire who turns up for work in busted ass shorts and thongs, swears, smokes, drinks like a fish is not all bad in my book.
He,s extremely bussiness savvy. But speaks the language and does provide a valuable service to Oenpelli that many have tried and failed.ie/Demair.
Infact he,d put the fear of god into the newbee,s.But he,s just a funny bastard at heart, with an angel for a wife!!!.
It,s the background side of the company in Darwin you have to watch.
Too much money and too much time.
Darwin kick boxing MAFIA.

CRJ-220 - Don,t know if i can say those things, at least politely.
See above for a mild explanation.

It,s worth it for the experience both flying and life.
Give them a go.It,s not all bad.

Cheers
M

They call him Lother, because it would be impolite to call him a c@@t while working for the chap.

As I said about Oenpelli beautiful one day, I just didn't say which day.

Cool Another Thread drift??

Yes i have big thumbs, and don,t proof read up to Morno,s standards.
DILLIGAF
But getting back to reality!!!.
Which this initial thread was all about.?
The young bloke asked an oppinion about Gunair. And to the best of my knowledge sounded keen to give anything a go in order to progress his career path.?
I gave an honest oppinion. Not retoric but an informed comment as an ex employee.Theres more i wanted to say but in the interest of good relations with this company i,ll refrain.
However the whole experience was positive, why wouldn,t it be when your on Kakadu,s doorstep everyday?.
In 8 months i accumulated 450 hours of C206 time.
Along with that my photo album is spectacular, my art collection is growing everyday, my understanding of another culture has opened my eyes, and my fishing skills have improved.
Yes i agree it,s a stepping stone.
But much better than circuits in a C152.
I apologise whole heartedly for any incorrect grammar in advance

GunAir

So you wana be a Lutah puhlot ay!
Did 8 months with Gumbys at the good-old Pelli, from Nov 06 to Jun 07. Probably the best 8 months of my life. Sure it was tough and it's really hard work, but believe me if you can live and work out there.... aka survive, anything else you come across in you're career will seem like a walk-in-the-park. Met some awesome characters too, like Lothar and Bradley. Some of the best flying you will ever do. You'll dred tues and fri (frieght days) but you'll quickly learn where to put the grapes and other fruit so no1 will know you've been taste testing the stuff between Jabas and the Pelli. Im still in touch with the CP out there so if you want any other info or his details PM me and ill put you onto him.
Best of luck with it all!
P.S. if you're lucky you'll get to fly the "red rocket" FZN, those who've done it are probably having a chuckle.
