Prtecting Files

Hello,

Can I password protect a file so that its not easily accessable from Windoze Explorer or My computer?

I am running Win98

Used to be able to do it on Windows 3.1!!!

Want to keep credit card info and stuff on an Excel file and oyher Word docs all in ine file.

Thanks

If you need to secure something as valuable as credit-card details from possible outside interferance, you should consider something like Password Safe. Windows "password protection" is not really worthy of the name and is trivial to break.

Originally designed for securing a plethora of account passwords, it is perfectly suitable for storing credit-card or other valuable data. It's available from Counterpane, http://www.counterpane.com/ps171.zip

Other than properly operated one-time pads, there's nothing totally secure. For basic 'keep-your-nose-out' security, I use Steganos 3 - seems pretty good, variable length keys etc. and was a 'freebie in a 'pooter' mag.
