Email encoding
A couple of Mrs B's friends have recently started sending emails that require UTF-8 encoding to read properly. Is this our setting or theirs?
|
have they just installed an out of date version of MS Office and transitioned their e-mail to Outlook? I'd guess at Outlook 2000/XP, or at a push 97
Old versions of Outlook have compatibility issues |
Ta - will ask. presumably they could change their encoding in those progs?
|
no - its an inherent problem in the way older versions of Outlook work
Best for them to use another e-mail program |
Can you find out what email client, or webmail, they are using to send to you? And what email client are you receiving with?
ISTR that Unicode UTF8 is associated with multi-language support - is that a possiblity? SD |
no - its an inherent problem in the way older versions of Outlook work I blame Bill Gates. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I've gone back to Word 97, rather then mess about with the inconvenience of trying to work with newer versions. KISS. |
Thanks all - will check in due course. There should be no issue of "multi-language support" but who knows upon what they have clicked......................:hmm:
|
UTF8 has been around for how many decades? What are you using that can't read it? "7 bit USASCII only" is so 1970s, surely?
