Silly me losing emails

I must have hit the wrong button.
Running Windows XP
Using Outlook Express 2002
Every time an email arrives to the inbox, it gets dramatically deleted and I cannot even find it in the deleted mail box.
Now I did try and configure Anti Spam.
Tried System restore so far without success.
All help greatfully recieved.
AVG is the other programme

Known to be problem with McAfee

Is your inbox too big? How big is inbox.dbx?

Check View/current view

Check the settings in Tools/Options/Maintenance

In the meantime set emails to remain on the server so they will not be lost.

No more ideas at present.

Make sure you haven't set a filter... Off the top of my head I can't remember what indicates you have - try Google... But your symptoms are spot on.

Are you running POP3 on multiple computers/devices per chance ?

One more 'Q', Grumpy Sir

Every time an email arrives to the inbox, it gets dramatically deleted
- does this mean you SEE it in the inbox and then it is 'deleted'? Immediately? After a while? Any messages? A little more info please.

PhineasC 12th July 2012 08:38

If you have access to webmail for this system I'd look on webmail to check they haven't been deleted from the server

Mike-Bracknell 12th July 2012 10:21

Check your spam folder.

The mail is shown to be arriving in the inbox and before my very eyes disappears: too where I know not.

Thank you all

For OE - as good an idea as any. It is in Tool/message rules/mail. Have you selected 'keep mail on server' yet?

"Using Outlook Express 2002"

There isn't an Outllook Express 2002
Theres an Outlook 2002 = Outlook XP

I suspect that on checking the Ootlook PST file is over its max size, which - from memory - is 2GB
Answer is to
1) delete as much as possible to emply space
2) empty the "deleted items" and "spam" folders
3) purge/compress the pst file to get back the freed up space
4) failing that, try moving all the old stuff into an archive pst file
5) failing that, and this is where it gets messy, creating a new default pst file so that new mails sue that

Whats happening is that the e-mail program can't download the new mails because of the pst file size. They should all still be sitting on the server.

The situation would appear to be resolved.

Now I'm Viscount Grumpy:rolleyes: Saw Outlook Express and didn't twig the '2002' (which is 2003). Bit of a waste of time.:ugh:
